First grow
    #23998190 - 01/10/17 01:07 PM (7 years, 1 month ago)

This is my first grow. I have 3 in the SGFC and another 12 that are fully colonized waiting the extra 7 days before birthing. My SGFC contains a digital humidifier/temp monitor that is reading 94-99% humidity and 70-75F degrees. The thing is, we are on the fringe of winter and it's already cold and dry. I am using a cool mist humidifier in the grow room along with a small ceramic heater to help maintain these conditions. Otherwise, the SGFC would not be holding the proper conditions. Will this motivate pinning and maintain through fruiting?
Any advice or suggestions is encouraged! Thanks in advance.

I'm not understanding why you need either the heater, the humidifier, or the hygrometer. Is the SGFC in your home, which is heated with central heating and air. Just trying to get a feel of what your environmental conditions are. Humidity isn't near as important as FAE, if you have 3-4 inches of moist perlite in the bottom of your SGFC and you have the SGFC drilled to specs you have nothing to worry about. Just mist the cakes directly when they need it.

I've had mushrooms grow at 50 degrees - albeit very slowly. I concur with getting rid of the heater, humidifier and hygrometer. What temperature is it without the heater out of interest?

Without the heater it falls to roughly 68 and below, but I realize now that is not inadequate. Thanks for the advice. Hygrometer has been removed from the SGFC and placed alone in the growing room.

However, as far as the humidifier...

"For this terrarium to function properly, you’ll want to have an ambient humidity in your room of 50% or greater. If you live in a desert or very dry climate, you’ll want to run a cool mist humidifier in the room your terrarium is located to raise the humidity to 50%. This becomes especially critical during the winter months when indoor humidity is often very low."
