Primordia growing against filter patch
    #23997775 - 01/10/17 10:23 AM (7 years, 20 days ago)

We're doing oyster mushrooms in bags with filter patches.  Loaded the bags w/ straw and inoculated grain spawn up to about 1 inch below filter patch. Sealed w/ impulse sealer with a little airspace.  After about 3-4 weeks, we had only partial colonization, but in nearly all the bags had crazy, 1-2 inch tall primordia growing up into the filter patch, as if trying to breathe, and all but busting through.

Is anyone familiar with this?  My first thought is that it indicates contamination -- fruiting before full colonization -- but the consistency and pushing right up into the filter patch also makes me think it could be environmental conditions.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

f you're using straw, you don't need those expensive microfilter bags at all, just make logs and cut slits. But most likely if it's reaching for the filter like you describe, it wants more air.

But primordia formation through the microfilter has happend to me several times.
once with lion's mane.

and once with reishi.

That reishi turned out very beautiful in the end.
