A Few Questions for the Experts
    #2399377 - 03/03/04 04:01 PM (20 years, 1 month ago)

First off, my BRF/verm inoculated jars of Matias Romero and Golden Teacher started out great colonizing for the first 2 weeks then just stopped colonizing. I used the taller 1/2 pint jars for those. It's been 4 weeks since they were inoculated and the bottom of the jars just aren't colonizing. I turned them over and tapped the bottom of the jars to loosen them up thinking maybe the bottom of the jars were packed a little tight, but hasn't helped much. The colonized portion of some of the jars are looking a little stressed as well. Any Ideas?
Also, my completely colonized Lipa Yai cakes are not pinning. Some are still in the jars and look great, yet with no invetro pinning, and I cased about 5 jars and have 1 cake, all in my fruiting chamber/terrarium and those aren't pinning either after being in there for over a week. Maybe all I need is a little patience.
thanks in advance for any advice you may have

What sort of air exchange/ air filters are you using on the stalled jars?

The others just need a bit more time, be patient young grasshopper

i won't be needing this any more.

the birthed one may need another five days or so. the ones in the jars may benefir from warmer conditions to finish them off. good luck, dude. you're in good hands.

Pinning will come... just wait; if the jars were fully
colonized and with no contams you don't need to get worried,
in a couple of days you'll see a lot of Mushi - Heads risin'
up
For the jars in incubation, donno if you have only some
aluminium foil over the top or also a lid, anyway I would
make bigger holes in the al foil with a fork or a knife
(sterilized): in my experience it has worked awesome, in
a day the colonization restarted and the myc had more O2
to breathe.

Good luck and post some pics

Thanks for the info. I did have some medical tape covering the holes in the lid that were left over from when I sterilized them. I just covered the holes back over after I inoculated them. I thought they may help keep out contams. I guess maybe they were not letting enough are in. So, of course, I immediately took it off. As far as the Lipa's, I guess I'll just be patient. Should I make sure the they are pinning in the jar before I take them out, or does it matter?
Also, Has anyone found that one strain works better fruiting off of cakes, as where another does better with casings?
