Bottle grow I gone and done 1

INTRO I've been hearing a lot about bottle grows recently and I thought I'd do my best imitation. I saw Muda's bottle tek which is great and rather extensive. He goes into all these different recipes and there's a lot of steps to prep everything just right. Problem is I'm a lazy fuck, so I did my own half-assed take on his tek. With 12 empty ziplocs and a heart of mold, I began my journey.
PHASE ONE: CULTUREAnd they say white people don't have culture. Ummmm, try again sweetie: Here I've got an Albino Penis Envy culture and a Chitwan culture. Both had clean growth from the syringe so I only took a transfer or two of each and called it a day. PHASE TWO: SUBSTRATEAs I previously stated, I'm lazy as hell. So instead of picking one of Muda's recipes I stuck to what I already know from growing in monos. I used Inocuole's Impossibly Simple Whole Oat Prep. Except I skipped the part where he pours boiling water over the oats a second time to help them steam dry. I wasn't at all concerned about any excess water. "Why would you do such a thing?" I'm glad you asked. I used the bucket tek: And no, it's not 50/50 coir verm god damn it. His user name is Damion5050. For god's sake the tek is titled "My Elementary Coir Tek". Anyway, you might also be asking yourself why I opted for fine verm over coarse. The answer is simple: I didn't have any. The store is like 3 miles away and it snowed down here. I've been doing nothing but eating milk and egg sandwiches for days. Where was I going with this again? Oh, right. From what I understand the bucket tek runs a little on the dry side so I figured any excess water would easily be absorbed by the coir/verm without going over field capacity. PHASE THREEI had to load the bottles up. I ended up doing 1.5 cups oats to 2 cups coir/verm. I was originally going to do 1 cup of oats but I had some extra room. I loaded them into the pressure cooker FOUR AT A TIME because that's all I could fit. I was pissed, that shit took like 9 or 10 hours. I did 2 hour cycles at 15psi and let the pressure cooker reach 0psi before loading the next batch. PHASE FOUR: INOCULATIONNow that we're done with all that tedious bullshit, it's time to get into the nitty gritty. This is where all my hard work can be ruined with the wave of a hand. I used Munchauzen's Blenderless Liquid Inoculant. I had issues with the jars forming a vacuum last time I used his tek because I sterilized my water jars with my grain jars. The 20 minute PC cycle made things easier to open, sort of. HOWEVER, I got too clumsy opening second water jar for my Chitwan culture and ended up touching the underside of the lid when the seal let go. FUCK!I've got a flight early in the morning so I couldn't afford to sterilize it again. It was time for hard mode: First I unscrewed the lids of the remaining 6 bottles and gently lifted them so they'd be ready to be removed easily with one hand. I also popped lid off of my pasty plate and gently set it back down. Then I flame sterilized the SHIT out of my scalpel and slid the lid off to the side of the plate. I held the plate at a 45 degree angle so as to avoid my hand being over the media. I proceeded to cut a grid into my agar to divide it into rectangular chunks. I speared each chunk with my scalpel, gently slid the lid of the bottle of to the side, and used the inside of the bottle to slide the agar chunk off of the blade. I figure it was better to let my agar touch the inside of the bottle than wave the scalpel around like a madman trying to get it off. I'll take a video next time so you guys can tell me what a fuckin' doofus I am. PHASE FOUR AND A HALF: COLONIZATION
We're nearing the final phase, boys. I shook the shit out of the bottles and gave them a little love tap to pack 'em down a little. Then I loosened the lids slightly to allow some gas exchange. They'll be sitting near a lamp with a 6500k CFL I've got on 12/12 timing while I'm out of town. I've got a flight to catch in a few hours here and I've been typing this up instead of sleeping. I'll be back in a week with an update on both this grow and my AA+ "Let's All Grow Mushrooms 2017" grow. PHASE FIVE: FRUITINGFive of the APE bottles finished colonizing pretty quickly so I went ahead and opened em up. I cased them with about 1/4" to 1/2" of fine verm and sprayed 'em down. Upon opening one of them I saw a grain that wasn't fully enveloped with mycelium so I dug the chunk it was connected to out just to be certain no uncolonized grains were exposed. I ordered some LEDs for the lid of this tote but they're coming from China so it looks like I'm jerry rigging it with a 6500K CFL in this lamp. It says between 45-50% RH in here and it's set up by my computer so I just look over and mist as necessary, popping the lid on when I leave or go to bed. The other bottles look to be about 2 days off from full colonization. Looking forward to having them join their brethren. UPDATE: Side pins, so many side pins.

Yeah as long as you weren't rubbing the top edge of your jar you'll be golden dude
always found it super annoying years ago when I used the bucket tek people calling it 50/50 or damions coir tek then I go to search it and can't fucking find it because its called Elementary coir tek

FOUR AT A TIME! I know the struggle. My first pc only fit three quart jars so took me four 1.5 hour cycles for two tubs.
Prestooooooo. Preeeeeeestoooooooo. Twenty three quaaaaaaaaart.... prestooooooooo

I've got a 23qt and it'll fit 6 of my quart grain jars just fine last I checked. But these ziplocs are some fat bastards and I can't lay one on its side if I'm going to leave the lids loose for gas exchange. All I want for my birthday this year is a couple big ass AAs and some propane burners.

Put 5 bottles into fruiting 10 days after inoculation. The wedge bottles are still catching up.

Great thread. Very funny write-up. I do a lot of those PP5 jars too. I've got it down to a simpler formula than you ... haha ... RGS cased with verm. That's it. No mixing, no fuss.

Yep. When it's fully colonized just case it with verm ... Fruits really well that way. I use RGS. With bottles you can bottom water which makes a huge difference and I think makes the water retention properties of some of the other ingredients less necessary.

Yeah I didn't bother trying to get any of the wedges into the bottles. The mycelium in the water after a good shake does just fine.

the agar is colonized with filamentous mycelium. its also the first to recover as its still got a foodsource. the tek of mine that you referenced specifically replaced an old tek that didn't use the agar for this exact reason. if you are not using the agar, you are not doing yourself any favors and are wasting a considerable amount of your culture.

I use a mirror 23 qt and still put them in sideways. You only need like a quarter turn backwards. The lids shouldn't be loose enough to have the lid come off. Only problem I've had is having them warp occasionally if I didn't twist enough back or dropped the pressure by fucking with my weight.

Nice looking grow man, are you sure you're white??!!
Seriously though, I love those Ziploc containers. Did a lot of them with Mazatepec back in the day. I had a walk-in fruiting area with 4-teir metal shelving and could fit so many of them on one unit. Definitely on par with good tubs. And it's fun to look like a mad-scientist with all those containers...

My bad. It wasn't specifically stated in the tek so I didn't consider how important it might be. I'm assuming I could have sped up colonization a bit if I did? I'll be sure to do it next time if I don't have a blender by then. Thanks for the tip.
