Started 2017 with Poison Oak on my Junk...
    #23996972 - 01/09/17 11:33 PM (7 years, 21 days ago)

Not the best way to start off the new year I'll tell ya. My lower stomach and inner thighs were covered as well.

Not sure how it got there, but I'm glad it is finally going away. I went on a couple hikes prior but didn't venture off the trail much. My guess is from touching one of my dogs that had it on them.

Anyone else have any good poison oak/ivy stories?

How to get started in bulk:
Presto 23-Quart Pressure Cooker
BOD's Simple as FUCK Still Air Box
PastyWhyte's Easy Agar Tek
Munchauzen's Cultivation Video Series
How EvilMushroom666 Prepares His Grains (I use jars with Synthetic Filter Discs)
What is G2G? (Grain-to-Grain)
Damion5050's Coir Tek (I use 5.5 - 6 quarts of water instead of 4. Also ignore step 13 and ignore the monotub completely. The only purpose of this tek is to show you how to make a simple substrate. I also add gypsum to it but not necessary)
Spitball's Monotub Tek (A liner isn't necessary but is useful)
Use 6500k lights throughout the whole process. When you wake up, turn the light on. When you go to sleep turn the light off. It's as simple as that.

I was clearing cut trees once, dragging them down a huge hill and throwing them in a wood chipper, I wasn't paying attention and inhaled a bunch of poison ivy dust which made me very sick, I had poison ivy seeping out of me for a while, it would randomly pop up all over my body at odd times, never burn poison oak/ivy/sumac and stand near the smoke, never chip trees which have poison ivy vines on them, or at least take note if the trees you're chipping have poison ivy vines on them.

I forgot about a time back in high school a few friends and I were fishing a river bank just off my friends property when we all got it pretty bad.  His dad came over with his ATV and started a fire for us since it was a bit chilly out.  He took off his shirt and then tore the wife beater he was wearing, too the gas cap off the ATV, stuck the torn piece off to soak it, and then proceeded to light it on fire and start a fire for us (I thought it as pretty badass at the time ha).  Someone must have thrown some posion ivy on the fire because each of us got it (and me for the first and only time until last year when I got it again).  Two of the guys missed a week of school and were put on steroids to try and clear it up quicker.. I felt pretty bad for them.

Have never been exposed to poison oak. Had ivy as a kid.

My brother is horribly alleric to that shit though. He'll get it on his legs and by the time night comes he's covered in hives and looks like a fucking diseased zombie virus motherfucker.

So it might be that but like my worst fear is going to the bathroom in the woods and accidentally brushing my lady parts against oak/ivy. Gaaah

A couple months ago I got a giant puss bubble the size of a gold dollar from poison ivy on my leg. It was the only portion on my skin that was affected. I just left it for a week or so until it popped, then band-aided that bitch.

I once had poison oak under a cast on my wrist.  Probably not as bad as the junk, but I can somewhat empathize.

Ouch! I can imagine. I got some Poison Ivy on my chest and back and it about drove me crazy. But for future reference, try soaking in some warm water with plenty of corn starch in it. It's very soothing to the afflicted.

The last time I got poison ivy was pretty bad, my hand was so swollen I couldn't make a fist. Had to take a week off work, luckily got reimbursed by workers comp. I don't think we have poison oak here.

Thread actually prompted me to look up what poison ivy looks like. And... Well it doesn't look like what I thought I did. The park I frequent by work is overgrown with it... Like I've even grabbed it and cut it with my knife before (more than a few times) and the only reason I can think that I haven't had a reaction to it is because I'm immune. O.o

Unless we have a mimic here on the east coast.

It's very common in the parks here (specifically in open areas). Probably better to avoid it even if you seem to be immune, you never know if you might develop a sensitivity later. The last few times I got it were worse each time.

I did not, but I am 99.99% sure it was poison oak/ivy.  And no reason for anything like that to happen when I have been with only one person for the past 2+ years.  Thanks for looking out for me though.  I hike quite often so that is a much more likely option.

Ha I'm guessing the oils were on their fur or the stick I threw into the woods a thousand times and then transferred to my hand, then a quick readjustment of the guys down below and wa-lah

I remember I had dry skin so bad and hiked for 20 miles without any cream or ointment. Fuck that noise. I'm like waddling with 40oz having a great convo with him literally dying down there.  I had to drive home in my boxers with one leg out the window to keep air circulation on me.

I always carry gold bond powder and cream now.

I have only had poison oak once and it scarred up my arm for a couple years, but it completely went away.

Sorry your year started out like that.

Yeah if it were any smaller I would have first guessed it being a bad case of heat rash. That shit sucks.

Oh for sure. I wouldn't intentionally mess with the stuff. Even if I am immune to its on contact effects that doesn't mean I can't accidentally rub it in my eyes or something.

What I thought was poison ivy turns out to just be a regular old harmless ivy. I feel bad for misjudging it now.

Besides that my family does tend to develop reactions to things as we age. I feel like I got a weird mix of the good and the bad genes cuz there's loads of things that don't agree with me, though so far as I know I'm not deathly allergic to anything and have basically been immune to the common reaction most people get from mosquito bites for almost a decade now.
I think I may have bad reactions to chigger bites though. They swell up way bigger than anything I've seen on chiggers and usually end up scaring after weeks of ridiculous amount of itchiness.

Good poison oak/Ivy story.

I am immune to their effects, doesn't bother me one bit.  My friend is super allergic to poison ivy.  As a kid I was dick, I grabbed a fist full off poison ivy leaves and rubbed it on his face cause I was mad at him.  He spent three weeks in the hospital because it got in his mouth.  That was literally the moment I stopped being a bully, and started sticking up for people.  The thought I could I have killed my best friend (still best friends 20 years later) is haunting.
