Recommendations for a noob 1

I have been interested in getting into the hobby, just have never really had time with jobs and everything else going on in my life. I am now in a position where I can. I have been reading lots of grow logs and along with the plethora of other info available on this site and I have a good idea of what I want to do. But I would like some advice from some growers here.
In your experiences what are the best methods for beginners? Not necessarily the easiest, but most pratical and fruitful methods. I'm not really trying to go big, just to get a stash of my own and for friends.
Any and all suggestions welcomed, just trying to narrow down my approach and do this thing right.

Run PF cakes while you learn no-pour agar.. move to grains when you feel comfortable.. keep your SGFC around to snag genetics (and later, test genetics).. and try to keep it as cheap as possible. The one thing to not skimp on is a pressure cooker. If you're gonna drop 60 bucks on one may as well spend 80 or 90 and get a bigger one.
And watch those videos Munch posted before you do anything else.

Thanks for the replies, I will check those videos out. I have been reading up on agar work, as I see it recommended here frequently. But I honestly don't think I would need more than cakes for my purposes. I don't trip quite as often as I use to these days. I'd just like some to have for a rainy day, and some to share. I feel like if I used some of methods I would just end up with way too much, and they would end up going bad.

They don't go bad as fast as you would think, as long as you properly dry them and store them they will remain fairly potent for years.

Cant ever stress this enough patience is key when nature takes course!
Honestly 1 monotub or 2 is still semi small and ull have the nicest stash of not id say brf cakes and try ur hand at agar

I started with cakes, but if I could start over with what I know now I would highly recommend rye jars and spawn to a monotub. You can even follow RR's videos for rye. It has worked great for me. The biggest issue I had with rye is bacteria, but I started pressure cooking for 90 minutes and it has helped a ton. If you have access to a PC ( pressure cooker) I would go rye and monotub. If you don't, I would go PF and SGFC. As everyone mentioned earlier, patience is key!
