Central Coast ID Request - Cyanescens??

Hello! I recently found these mushrooms growing in some pine needles near Central coast (CA) after heavy rain. Cap: Caramel when wet, somewhat slimy. Turned darker when partially dried Gills: off white in young specimen maturing to a light tan Stem: White, silky looking and hollow. No ring etc. Bruising: doesn't appear to bruise (unless pictures show otherwise) Scent: fairly neutral I've never picked mushrooms before, but my best guess is that they are P. Cyanescens. However the lack of blue bruising worries me that they are something else. *Note- my camera made it look like the larger specimen's stem is brown, however it is actually off white

Nope, not Cyans. Sorry man. It's the blue bruising you want. There are also other subtle differences that differentiate these from actives. Good luck hunting. Keep it up.

Yes, definitely not active. Look in urban landscaped areas for actives but your location and the time of the year are going to make it tough to find them. But it still possible nonetheless. The only way to know for sure is to go hunt. Good luck to you!

I'm also on the central coast be careful, there are so many that look like wavy caps. And damn if I don't get excited every single time I see them. But alas no blue and I just don't bother. Keep searching. I just found a bunch of cinctulus/subbs yesterday. There's a bunch around this area all the time just have to know what to look for.

The other thing that helps to distinguish is stem color. Cyan stems are always a stark white compared to the cap of the mushroom. In these you notice the stipe is basically the same color as the cap.

You found an Inocybe species, potentially toxic.
