wbs clumping in a pretty serious way
    #23994436 - 01/09/17 05:50 AM (7 years, 21 days ago)

Okay, So .... I recently bought an All American 25X and my Wbs has been clumping up really bad when I PC it. I mean, it's really stuck together in a serious way.
I never had this problem with my Presto and if someone could help me figure out how to stop it from happening, I would really appreciate it.

What tek you using OP? I doubt its the PC, I went from presto to AA with no real difference. Kinda regret buying it because the only difference is how beefy it is

I had consistent trouble with WBS. Recently found whole oats at the feed store and fell in love. Cheaper and easier to use.

Are you simmering the wbs? Try a 24hr soak no simmer. Load slight damp grain after 20min drain.
Shake the hot jars once finished and cool enough to open PC.

Wbs smells.  Sounds like a wet case of to much crack corn from the bottom of the bag to me.

Those shakes are essential one straight out the pc then one at time of inoculation (I do g2g or agar transfers so I shake at inoculation)

Did you switch brands of WBS?  I don't use WBS with ANY cracked corn in it.

I agree that a 24 hour soak - no boil - is necessary for WBS.
Cheers

Okay, sorry for the delay.

I rinse and soak 24 hours, then I bring water to a boil and simmer seeds for 10 minutes and drain ...and rinse.

I opened one of the jars and broke up the clumps by hand, this is what I experienced....

The seed is drier than I have ever had happen before ... But they are rubbery, so I can break a corn kernel by squeezing it between my fingers.

I'm not accustomed to my WBS behaving this way.
The only aspect I have changed in my Pressure cooker.

DO NOT SIMMER WBS. the 24hr soak is enough.

when i have the perfect wbs it reminds me of hydrated BBs almost. when i shake they sound dry. perfect.
