Oxygen Output in House Plants

Ive been wanting to get a houseplant for my apartment that tends to fill with stagnant air.
I was trying to find out what plant would produce the most oxygen. I dont mind getting a plant with a max height of 4 ft.
What would output the most O2? A taller tree or a shrubby plant with a large amount of leaves?

from that link: Quote:
The O2 in air is so abundant (21%), that the effect of your home plants is almost negligible

Yes but if the house or room had shitty air, one would think if you kept windows and doors shut that an abundance of the right plants around the place would improve the air quality even slightly

Ive always heard peace lillies produced a lot of O2

one would like to think so, but i haven't seen any research showing that though. certainly oxygen levels would not be raised to a point where you can actually measure it.

You could always get a really nice salt lamp. Make sure it'd a HPS bulb in it not a regular incandescent.

maybe a few plants would raise the O2 quality rather than raise O2 quantity

Unless your house/room is hermeticly sealed any o2 will imediatly defuse. And no plant is going to have the o2 output to maintain a higher level at a positive pressure then ambient o2 from outside the room.
Think of it this way, i work in medicine, we have an o2 chamber thats about 5 feet long, 3 feet tall and about 2 feet deep. And requires a 5L/second of pure o2 to maintain anything above ambient 20 some percent. And the second you open any porthole includeing the 1inch iv access port the chamber imediatly drops to ambient.
It also works in reverse, ynless sealed ambient o2 will replace any drop in o2 from your room.
The answer to your stale air is a fan not a plant.
Also if im remmembering college biology right if raw o2 output is what your after your better off with an algae tank versus a house plant.
