Birthing half cakes
    #23992179 - 01/08/17 11:28 AM (7 years, 1 month ago)

This is my first time trying to grow mushrooms. I had a long business trip come out of no where and I didn't trust anyone to birth the cakes. Of the 8 jar's I had on average 60-70 covered, Will this hurt the rest of the process?

Yeah you will be leaving them weakened and more easily contaminated. How longs the business trip? Youve probably still got a week maybe more till its done colonising then a week to consolidate. They may start to pin invitro but it wont hurt it to birth them a little late, much better idea than doing it early

yes, if birthing now you may as well bin them or you will come home to shit loads of mold.

Some people leave them in the jars on purpose, this is what happens if they grow (not my pics)

I ended up birthing them early, from the pictures nothing has happened in 3 days. So I am going to assume you guys are correct about the mold. This was my first time trying to grow them and didn't find this site until after the fact. I appreciate the help.

If they have been birthed for 3 days I would carefully cut the uncolonised areas off. Sometimes jars stall and never fully colonize and people cut the sections off.

Better luck next time. Or just let them sit next time. They could've waited at least 3 weeks.

Wash off the uncolonized bits did you dunk them for 24 hours and roll in dry verm?
