THE 100 DAYS WITHOUT SODA CHALLENGE - are you in?
    #23992040 - 01/08/17 10:28 AM (7 years, 1 month ago)

As you may know California is going to put extra taxes and possibly obesity/diabetes warnings on sugary/hfcs soda drinks

Their motivation is not just to get extra tax revenue but also because research has shown that in the average American diet sugary/hfcs soda drinks are the WORST OFFENDER where it comes to Obesity, Diabetes and a host of other illnesses you won't immediately expect such as cardiovascular disease.

What is a can of soda?

Fizzy Demineralized Water
Lots of sugar or HFCS or chemical sweeteners
Natural and chemical additives
an acid like citric acid
Sometimes caffeine.

The only thing more or less OK about it would be the fizzy water BUT! Thats not mineral water but rather demineralized water so every drink tastes the same and demineralized water is stripped of its nutrients and osmotic value so even the WATER is shit!

The science is there: sugar and HCFS in excess of an ounce a day in all your foods is acutely bad for you and probably half an ounce would be closer to what your body likes.

:havesomescience:

Likewise, sugar free sweetened soda is bad for you, not just because of the questionable chemicals that are used as sweeteners but for the simple fact that tasting sweet in your mouth makes you produce extra insulin to deal with the sugar, that ISNT there, so the insulin instead turns the blood sugar that keeps you satiated and feeling fresh into bodyfat, making you fatter and hungry within about an hour, and closer to diabetes because you did something crazy with your insulin.

My proposal:

Let's, and thats the soda drinkers among us, commit ourselves to a simple experiment, a proof of concept diet! For 100 days starting when you want we're going to swap our soda cans and bottles for fizzy mineral water cans and bottles. They fizz, they can be bought in the same sizes and are cheaper. No flavorings, fruit juice or other cheating, just, swap out your soda for Mineral Water/Seltzer Water/Club Soda/Carbonated Water. A can for a can, a bottle for a bottle, or drink even more! Just make sure there are no additives.

If you find yourself more hungry eat something sensible fitting to your diet that isn't sugary, but starchy is OK. No honey, that's a fructose sugar too!

If the science is correct, in these 100 days if you are a regular soda drinker and stick with the plan you likely will start feeling noticably better and if you drank more of it and just stick with carbonated water, you will inevitably lose some weight.

If you know sugary stuff is bad and therefore use artifically sweetened stuff and dont believe it is bad for you, you have the opportunity to test this on your body and experience it yourself with you as the sole judge.

I'll continue doing this. I haven't drank soda in a long time.

My dad hasn't drank soda in like 40 years. He says he used to be chubby, but then he stopped drinking soda and lost a lot of weight.

Kombucha should be allowed to drink during this, imo.

I used to drink a big bottle of diet coke a day many years ago and had all sorts of ailments that the doctor couldnt place that VANISHED when I stopped drinking that crap!

I drink maybe 2 or 3 cans of soda a year now.

But, I did a proof of concept diet some months ago where I ate crappy, white bread and all that, but with the exception that I kept all sugar under 30 grams a day as per the WHO recommendation. To my astonishment I lost 10 pounds in 6 weeks or so that stayed off  in the months after so it wasnt water weight and there was no voracious rebound.

CUTTING SUGAR WORKS.

So, two and two together this soda challenge will help a lot of Shoomerites because most Shoomerites are young Americans and precisly they tend to drink the most soda.

So, here we go!

Well made Kombucha, so that the sugars are digested, of course is fine, as would be unsweetened herbal teas, but for the proof of concept diet i kept it simple.

People will notice feeling better and their body will motivate them to take this further, like no amount of talking and explaining can.

It was total shit and once my body showed me the way, how my health improved not drinking that stuff, I havent had a bottle of it in my house since, now 10 years or so.

ITS CRAP!

But people need to experience it to believe it. You can make anything sound reasonable or silly, your body must show the way.

I'm in :highfive: just water, tea, black coffee, and chocolate milk from here on out.  Those ones I need, but I think I can do without soda.  I never can believe how much sugar is actually in there.

I've been in for the last 30 years, in those 30 years I have drank maybe a total of around 20 cokes

once you're away from them they taste bad, downright gross

Same it's pretty much all water and booze for me. Although I don't find them gross so much as unbelievably sweet

They do, yes, I used to love Coke, but now it has an udertaste of machine oil and moments later you get that icky feeling of having consumed too much sugar with no nutrients to show for it.

his point in all of this is to get away from sugars which isnt a bad idea, what is a
bad idea is buying into some bullshit about kombucha being some kind of super food
as the hipsters and hippies are trying to push it off as. if you enjoy it, drink it
but dont go into it thinking it has some magical properties, it's just fermented
sweet tea which is in actuality a wine that will give you a really bad hang over if
you over do it, assuming you arent making your own and instead growing aspergillus
