Thanks, BOD! I built my first GB in 1975. It was a cardboard box with elbow length gloves and a poly window taped in place. Spores from Mya Bells. Man, I love Sterilite clear totes! In the last two years I’ve really had fun with science while making many upgrades to my techniques and practices primarily by searching this forum. I love my new SAB, thanks BOD. I finally have enough room to really work and continue to make progress toward less contamination. I’m hanging onto my forced air HEPA filter booth because it was fun to build and it really works well. Precipitating contaminants in a mist of soapy water is a great breakthrough in sanitation for me. Thanks for the tip. I’ve also switched to 70% alcohol from 91% after coming to realize how much more effective it is for sanitation. Another great tip. The routine I’ve settled into is inoculating LC’s (dextrose with light malt) with spores. (Great LC lids from Shroom Supply) I’m using well populated LCs to create grain masters, then G2G and finally to the unmodified 54 quart tubs with coir. One 24 watt twist 6500 bulb in cone reflector per tub when fruiting. I’m basically following the BOD SAF format for everything using 8 tubs. Geeze! I’m starting to look like Sheldon! lol Great science, great hobby and great work by BOD consolidating a lot of very useful information to share with fellow mycologists.

that's not a great idea.

This is why you should always use agar to start off a LC if you ever chose to use a LC. LC like beer is a environment where any competing organism can just grow like mad. if you start with spores which are in the next few images, you will see just how much trouble you can get yourself into. a single bacteria floating around can double in a few hours and exponential growth boom you have a completely infected jar and it may not even smell or appear infected due to the low levels of nutrition in a LC(a few percent sugars 2-5% usually)

My view is that any idea is a good idea if it produces good results. Right now, I’m just having really good luck with LC’s. I have five different species that of been colonizing at 84° In a home made incubator for about three weeks. I’m done with them for now so I just moved them to the refrigerator for use much later. Call me a nut, but I just love putting the jars on the magnetic stirrer and watching those my myllium clumps busting up. The grain masters that I made from the LCs colonized in less than a week with no signs of contamination. (lucky me) I DID use a generous squirt of LC for each grain master. I just used my new SAF SAB to do my G2G from the Masters to 28 quarts. What a nice new workspace! We’ll see how I did with clean and sanitary practices in a day or two

This thread has opened my third eye
Why not add chemistry to physics and use isopropanol as spray?

Why spray an unnecessary sanitizer around. Waste of money. And potentially a bomb situation

Again, thank you Bod. Every good forum has some simplification of unnecessarily complicated shit, and this is it. I used everything in your EASY AF list and it has worked flawlessly twice. Can't thank you enough!

It helps to be able to look down on your work instead of in the front. Either works. I use mine right side up because I don't have a big enough table in my shroom

do you remake the soap sanitizer every time you work with your sab?
do you just microwave it to make the soapy water warm?

I usually omit the spray, because I'm confident my technique is down but I would only change it every month or two when I did

Yep, give it a shake first. But it should still be plenty viscous. I wouldn't worry about temperature.
