Phony Phone said: there are particles flying around in a sab prepared with soapwater in a draft free room. Ive seen them flying with a flashlight shining inside the box. This is after letting everything settle for 30-40 mins and the holes secured with saran wrap. After im done with the work, even if there were no particles in the first place, there will be after and even deeper withing the sab where you are supposedly secure.
I'd imagine a dry sab would be even worse. The air definitely does not remain still in a SAB. It's STILLER than outside of it. Unless you people know something I don't, SAB's are a dice roll, mostly in our favor but still, a dice roll.
Interesting, also interested in hearing other’s views on this.

A 110q tub or a 66q tub. 110q is preferred. alternatively you can build one out of Plexiglas or something else like an aquarium but that's not the simple AF way. Some people have found tubs in the nearly 200q size as well, that will work too.
I have this:
As you can see: 120 quarts, more translucent than clear.
Or I can use:
80 quart clear. Same style as your unmodified monotub TEK, but larger.
If I use the larger, less clear tub for my SAB, is there some sterile kinda easy way to "make a window."or is it not neecessary?
____
Another question. kI searched the web for a 15 oz coffee can diameter. it's a c-hair over 3" in diameter. I plan to wear tyvek sleeves after pre-op scrub. i'm kinda skinny. i'll probably tak a tailor's tape to my arms and ad an inch...will that works?
if this is somewhere, i couldn't find it with advanced search...easy does it on the facepalm.
thanks.

I don’t know how well this works as I haven’t tried it myself but I’ve read of others using a gas torch to carefully heat the tub wall keeping the torch far enough away and continually moving resulting in the plastic going from its milky colour to clear. Of course if it’s overheated it will melt. From memory they did this in the centre area above the arm holes for much better visibility.
It could be bullshit for all I know so best to first it try on an old tote to see if it works!
I don’t have a gas torch so anyone else willing to try?

Well I borrowed the neighbours small gas torch. Didn’t work for me. I did get the plastic to go clear but only when it started melting. I do recall reading that it apparently worked on some tubs but not all. Or they’re telling lies.

Further in regard to visibility although probably stating the obvious simply placing a bright lamp directly on top of the SAB facing downward makes a big difference.

That's genius! A light! I really need you folks!
Also, I did have a Sterilite 80-quart that will be perfect. Gonna try making the arm-holes with a 6" hole-bit. A friend said that heating the bin with a hair-drier will help prevent cracking.
It better, those Sterilite bins are fucking pricey.

I saw an 80-quart sterilite in the house. That's clear enough. Until I trip over the money for an SAS laminar flow hood...

I used a 4 inch hole saw to cut holes in a 90 quart (85 liter) Sterilite.
For the first hole I heated the teeth of the hole saw with a blow torch as I spun the saw, then pushed slow and steady and cut a perfect hole. The second hole I skipped the heating and it came out perfect as well, no cracking.
I think the key is not pushing hard. Good luck!

Is there any benefit (or downside) to using the Sterilite lid as the base?
My plan is to cover the bottom (either the table or the lid) with moist Clorox wipes, then put sanitized cookie cooling racks on the wipes, and all my dishes and bottles on the cookie racks. Sound good?
Thanks Bod and everyone!

The lid doesn't work well as a base when your pouring plates, where it helps to be almost completely level. For that I sanitize a card table with iso and use the SAB upside down. For anything else I think it works fine to use the sterlite either way.

He he, a light bulb moment.
Here’s a picture of my simple 120q SAB. Larger container provides good height as well as overall work space. I didn’t think to turn the attached light on when I took the photo. Bar led light (600 l) fixed to the top with clear gorilla tape and some temporary cloth tape on the bottom sides to stop the SAB from moving when working in there. Holes are 5”, I used a cheap hole cutter with timber hard up against the container wall when cutting the holes.

Also, i used a 105oz big ass can of this food called 'Hominy' (all the Mexicans out there know what i'm talking about) to drill the holes. You can find it at any supermarket for $3.50.
Keep in mind that some of the plastic will stick to the bottom of the can, so repeat heat-ups will give off a lot of fumes. I set mine on my pre-heated electric stove-top for about 3 minutes at medium.
So, now I've got both some fine lookin holes on my SAB and 2162 calories of what appears to be soggy white corn! Bone apple teeth!
A quick PSA on this, there's some sort of preservative plastic coating on the interior of these hominy cans. When I heated this up on my stove, it was almost instantaneous plastic burning smell and I had to air out the place for an hour.
I ended up using a soldering iron outside, purchased from Walmart for $10 (hyper tough brand), and following the circles I traced with a permanent marker using the 105oz can. Took about 10 minutes.

After imagining the work flow of using the soapy water with stuff in the SAB and reading 13 pages I get to a post by bod that says he doesn't even us soapy water anymore. Every tek I've read is partially obsolete by the time you get to the last page. Can we edit the first page or is there a time limit?

Ozone doesn't come in a spray unless you're talking about one of those generators. But no don't use that. Ozone isn't good for you

I use Ozium spray all the time when working with my SAB. But not inside my box. After cleaning it with beach and water mix I use Lysol and 70% iso in the box. I also put a thick CLEAN white towel down so it seals all the edges and I then sprits it down with bleach/water mix 10-20% mix. My theory is that it keeps it moist in there and any particles will stick and I also keep the walls moist with Lysol or the bleach water so particles stick. I have not had anything get contaminated yet while pouring plates. I would also like to add I’ve only been doing this for two months. Good luck with everyone’s grows. Listen to the TCs on here. They have experience and are huge help. One of my biggest mistakes is I asked way too many people the same question and I get too many different answers. That goes with anything in life. 👀 I just read all 19 pages and was wondering if i should even spray soap + water at all after seeing Bod say he doesn't anymore. This is prolly bc he is seasoned af when it comes to using his sab but what does everyone think?
