Size, as they say, is important but please don't neglect light penetration when you buy your SAB. They clearer plastic, the better. It might save you an headache if working in your SAB for long minutes.

After spraying the walls of the SAB how long do you let it sit to settle before working in it?

All right ive gotta ask. How in TF do you move that fast in your SAB videos and not get contams? I still end up with plates that contam even if I use crazy slow movements.

MrTinAZ said: Thank you so much for this TEK! There are tons of great threads I want to thank people for, but they are generally many years old and I don't want to necro bump and old thread. I know this thread is old, but since people posted on it just last month I figure it is not bad ettiquette to thank you for the TEK!
I could not find a 5" coffee can, I bought a small coffee can but it was only 4" so I had to go back and get a bigger one. The small 4" can was an 11.3" can and I would recommend avoiding these unless you have small hands/arms. I am a pretty big guy so I got the 6" can of Hills Brothers (because it was on sale for 5.99 instead of $9+ like others). The 6" can is 23 oz (1 lb 7 oz).
I'd recommend getting one bigger than the 4" so either look at the oz size based on what I am saying or just bring your tape measurer to the store to be sure you don't make my mistake of buying 1 too small. If you can find a can with a 5" size that could work great but I could not so I went with the 6". Hopefully, it is not TOO big because that could let extra air in I don't want, but I think it will work fine since I am 6'3" 220lbs so I may need a bigger opening than some people.
TLDR make sure to check the size of the can you buy so that you don't make the mistake I did and buy a can that is too small! And THANK YOU bodhisatta for this method!
Thanks MrTinAZ for pointing me in the direction of this Tek. We were conversing a couple of months back, and I've just got around to making my SAB using this tek. I reckon my coffee can is 5". I heated it up on the BBQ in the back yard and made the 2 holes in around 20-30 mins. Too easy! I just used the SAB to prep a row of spore prints using Bod's Proper spore printing TEK. I've got a few people interested in this hobby, so helping them out with spores.
My second grow has been a resounding success. My 11 PF-tek jars have given me around 120g of dried. Plenty to keep me going for summer (and beyond! )

I used the oven inoculation method for my first research experiment. Have you ever used this method and if so what disadvantages do you see vs an SAB?

I hate idea of "wreaking" a tub. so put the tub on its side and tape plastic 2/3- 3/4 the way down. and have good success as coming from bottom dont automaticlly drop things over working area. disadavantage is plastic isnt solid and can move so have to work back 3rd of tub. also have worked inside clear plastic bags and obv suck in air but also very succesfull. likely just being more careful with whole room ie lysol bleach the air and entire body. but showing likely alot of contams are just dropping vs stired up. like shit rain!
then SAB can be used for fruiting chamber/humidity chamber for over filled shoeboxes. or store clothes one day or for those with roommates looks less incremenating. prob will end up biting the bullet and cutting holes as easier to be sure is clean/clean up.
cheers!

Heyas was able to build my sab using this simple as s tek. Thankyou Thankyou Using a 90 liter tub, it seems like a good starting size, Iβm about to try couple of plates once things cool down. The one thing that made it easy for me, cause I had the tools. Using red aviation snips to cut my arm holes. My simple process was to start my hole in the middle with 1 inch hole saw, then use snips to spiral out until I get to my finished size. They cut the plastic with ease, with no cracking. The red snips are made for spiraling right direction. Also they make green handled snips if your left handed and need to spiral left. I can try to do some pictures later if you need some visuals

there are particles flying around in a sab prepared with soapwater in a draft free room. Ive seen them flying with a flashlight shining inside the box. This is after letting everything settle for 30-40 mins and the holes secured with saran wrap. After im done with the work, even if there were no particles in the first place, there will be after and even deeper withing the sab where you are supposedly secure.
I'd imagine a dry sab would be even worse. The air definitely does not remain still in a SAB. It's STILLER than outside of it. Unless you people know something I don't, SAB's are a dice roll, mostly in our favor but still, a dice roll.
