Is "blue bruising" a safe method to identify safe mushrooms in Pennsylvania?
    #23989869 - 01/07/17 03:32 PM (7 years, 23 days ago)

I will be searching this summer (specifically for psilocybe ovoideocystidiata but others like bluefoot) in Pennsylvania, are there any mushrooms that bruise blue but are unsafe?

There are a lot of threads about this strain but they dont seem to get at this question, nor is it quite as direct as this, specifically about Pennsylvania.

Thanks for responses.

if it bruises blue AND has a purple-brown spore print as well as has gills(not pores), it's safe. Really, there won't be much question if you actually find something active. Should be pretty obvious plus you should post a picture here first and have someone knowledgeable give you a second opinion.

I live in PA myself and thought about hunting. I'm sure an active would contrast very well with the other native fungi. If you find one you will probably know it. It should be a magical moment. I never seen one around here nor was aware that they existed around here. I think Boletus Badius is the only other bluing species around here, which don't resemble actives at all ( maybe Gymnopilus a little bit.
