I get occasional side pins, I just dont mind taking the time to clean my tub out once I toss the sub outside.

1. No... He's like our Andrew Wakefield. 2. No, if you want to learn you will. Good info is abundant. For that book its not worth anyone's time to pick it apart piece by peice to appease some noobs 3. Learn to research more effectively is all I can suggest 4. Yep books like that are noob magnets

if you have an educational background in microbiology, you should be golden. just start with the links in bodhi's sig, and study that stuff, that is basically an up-to-date catalog of the current best practices and easiest ways for beginners to achieve success
it will probably make a lot of sense to you, and will definitely be more accurate and helpful than any book. books are nice, but you will be learning bad/outdated habits. you can easily find torrents floating around that have basically all the mushroom grow guides and books, but they usually cause more harm than good
its not that there isnt good info in there, there definitely is, its just that if your goal is to get mushrooms, you would do better by building off of what we have learned since then and learning from the success and failures of so many others who have done this
what exactly is your goal? what are you trying to accomplish in this hobby?

People in the shroomery used to wrap their tubs with blankets and stuff just after spawning till its fully colonized but no one do this anymore.
Ambiant light is beneficial for myc during the colonization stage.
Now some people fruit at spawning.
I think this book is full of outdated info.
