Is my gauge wrong?

I have 4 cakes and a casing in my terrarium, it has lotts of holes, a pearlite bottom, and I've been misting it several times a day for the 10 das my cakes have been in there. I just today bought an electronic humidity/temp gauge. I got a good one from a hydroponics store 20 bucks, it reads 35% humidity?I need atleast 85% right? That can't be right, or is it? I was wondering if it is broken. It has 2 settings "inside" and "outside. It's on the inside setting right now, so it measures the temp/humidity inside the FC. Is it in the wrong place perhaps? It's in pic 3

I just put my heating pad under my fc to warm up my pearlite and make its water evaporate faster, I may not have fully strained my pearl light if that is my problem I'm hoping this will help, will post results. I've had them in there 10 days and no pinns I think it's because the humidity is so low

Thank you kindly, I reckon I need a sgfc with that stuffing in the holes to lock in RH. I think a pearlite fc in the open isn't sufficient, this is my second grow. My first grow was puny, I don't think there's a quick fix for this one I'll have to make a sgfc bottom line unless I hear any other suggestions

Take the heating pad out from under it, SGFC is automatic from natural air currents in the room. All you will achieve is bacterial growth and dry perlite.
Part of the reason you have no pins is because some of your cakes have not been rolled in vermiculite, so the microclimate that pins love to be in (plenty of humidity) hasn't been achieved.

You should have 1/4" holes 2" apart in a grid pattern on all 6 sides including the bottom and the sgfc should be elivated off the surface it's sitting on so air can flow up through the bottom holes and perlite. Build to spec per this link https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20195542#20195542 and forget about monitoring RH trust in the proven design, don't plug holes. Hygrometers tell you nothing you need to know even if they were accurate. As said look at your cakes, mist until glistening with fine beads of moisture repeat when they have evaporated.

Blocking or stuffing holes in a SGFC lowers RH

This.
Your FC looks like a real shotgun blast. Its actually just a figure of speech. SGFC should have an *even* 2in hole grid, not just random holes everywhere.
The grid pattern is important for consistent humidity.

I used to use a gauge in mine. But I figured out it really didn't tell me anything cause it always said 99%. I just look at the cakes and feel and breath in the chamber air when I open it. Gives me a way better idea what the conditions are instead of looking at the gauge.

good plan.
I always feel the humidity with my hand. Works very well. Also, looking at the dryness (or lack there of) of my cakes is the best way to do it.
