Woke up with a great idea for truffles!
    #23967635 - 12/30/16 09:43 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

So it occured to me, with reading what we've been covering as now relative methodology in cultivation, that when we collect stones from the jars,we can make a couple of intellegent choices as to the next step:  We spawn or we throw the grain back into the jar for more stones.

My idea, for rejarring grain, is to soak the remaining grain in a half strengh coffee solution mixed with gypsum. This would be employing this a second time.  Once prior to cooking and noc, and once now prior to putting grain back into the jar.

We've already seen the rehydration to have a positive affect on spawning, perhaps for rejarring combined with the added nutrients of more gypsum and coffee would give an excllent boost to a consecutive yield.

What do you think? Someone already done this?  I'm going to employ it upon the next opportunity.  I hope this is something we can use effectively.

Hey Hekate,
Just to clarify, gypsum is a sub conditioner and not a nutritional supplement.  Also, I know it's stated that the addition of coffee helps promote stones but so far, my limited testing of coffee agar on stone producers has shown the opposite.  Just some food for thought.

I think you'd be better off using a grain soak water or water that you boiled potatoes in for rehydrating the grains. There's quite a lot of nutrients in that!

I thought gypsum provides calcium and sulfer?

You cant just keep adding nutes after flushes. Doing so will just promote mold and other contaminant growth.

it does which in turn helps aid in fruit body development, you will get thicker meatier fruits.

:whathesaid:

Nitrates and sulphur for amino-acids and protein. More yield and bigger fruits.

I would argue the benefits of conditioning, i.e., better oxygenation, water retention and stability of the sub, allowing for a more vigorous and robust mycelium and in turn, beefier or more consistent flushes would outweigh the effects of trace elements such as Ca and S which are most likely being derived from the spawn in the necessary quantities as is.  Whew...that's a run on sentence!

Farmers have been reporting this for decades and it's not because they learned so on shroomery
