Rich kids do better than poor kids * 4

Moving this from Political Cartoons so that thread doesn't get hijacked.

Statistically, a high school dropout from a rich family does as well as a college graduate from a poor family, so the comic above is extremely true to life.

Washington Post is the liberal Fox News.  The graph it provided references a study that in no way indicates what they wrote is true.

Have a look http://www.thelibertypapers.org/2014/12/01/rich-high-school-dropouts-well-poor-college-grads/

I looked at your article and it doesn't refute the data from one I posted.  In fact, it uses the same data source to make additional points.

In summary, your article (correctly) states that the title of my article was wrong, and I agree (I also agree Washington Post isn't a great source).

Yes, poor kids with a college degree do in fact do slightly better than rich kids who drop out of high school.  But kids with equal backgrounds do far better when they're from rich backgrounds.  Both articles make this very clear.

So work hard,  build yourself up, and teach your children to do the same

Or bitch about being poor, keep blaming rich people for being poor, and condemn your children to the same fate

And smart kids do better than stupid kids, better looking kids do better than ugly kids, healthier kids do better than sick kids, shall I go on?

There's nothing equal about life, as soon as we are born we have advantages and disadvantages relative to our peers.

The ultimate goal is equal opportunities, not equal outcomes.

The point isn't to equalize all outcomes.  The point is that nobody pulls themselves up by their own bootstraps.  Some people are luckier than others, and the world might be a nicer place if we did away with the myth that successful people deserve all the credit for said success.  This isn't to say that successful people don't deserve some credit for their success.  They do, of course, but recognizing the role that luck plays in our lives might go far to increase peoples' empathy for those less fortunate.

"The point isn't to equalize all outcomes"

Tell that to racial liberals.

"recognizing the role that luck plays in our lives might go far"

How shall that "recognizing" take place?  Sometimes we make our own luck, how would one quantify that reality?

No, we don't.  One might make a mighty effort, but no one has control over luck (by definition).

With the former, youve admitted there arent equal opportunities. With the latter, advocating them.

What would you do to make opportunities more equal (to any degree)?

Poor people never gave me anything.  Rich people run the companies I've worked for and give me my regular pay check.  People with money do business with us and pay us for our services.

Yes, of course you should "work hard,  build yourself up, and teach your children to do the same".  But the statistics show that if you're born poor, you won't get as far as you would if you're born rich.  THAT'S the point.

I understand it clearly "success or failure apparently brought on by chance".

So if someone has more chances for "good" luck, then they would statistically have a better chance for "success" than the person who had less chances, it's called probability.

Wut?  Who said that?  Another straw man?

You guys can't stop with the logical fallacies.

Are there any non-liberals in the political forum that know how to debate without constant logical fallacies???  Calling out one logical fallacy after another is getting boring...

No.  If YOU give YOURSELF more opportunities to potentially get lucky, that is will, or perhaps, work.  Feel free to congratulate yourself on a job well done.
If, however, you are simply born with a last name or skin color or physical stature, etc, that affords you greater opportunity through no will or effort of your own, you got lucky.  Don't get too proud, because you had nothing to do with it.
Does that make sense?

I wasn't even talking about "last name or skin color or physical stature", I was talking in theoretical terms about probability and luck.

There's nothing equal in life, if you want to constantly use "you got lucky, Don't get too proud" rhetoric, can I ask what you're trying to accomplish?

Some people are born smart, some are born pretty, some are born competitive, should they all walk around with a sign on their head saying "I'm not proud of anything I have accomplished because I hit the genetic lottery?"

Does that make sense?

He was originally arguing with Webster10 and BubbaGump92 about whether rich kids have an advantage over poor kids or not.  It appears you are in agreement with him that they do, and in disagreement with BubbaGump and Webster.

He was originally arguing with Webster10 and BubbaGump92 about whether rich kids have an advantage over poor kids or not.  It appears you are in agreement with him that they do, and in disagreement with BubbaGump and Webster.

I think the point was that if you're born lucky, you shouldn't pretend you weren't.

Who's pretending, when a woman has a great set of tits and a fine ass they usually advertise that fact, should they pretend they didn't get the genetic goods and dress accordingly?

Also, who's to say that being born to rich parents is "lucky"?  Maybe it's better to be born into a lower middle class family that places more emphasis on personal development and happiness instead of materialism and wealth.

I know of many people that had rich parents who treated their children like shit, I mean truly physical and mental abuse that ruins that person for life.

So if someone is poor they shouldn't have children, thank you Captain Obvious, now send that message to the continent of Africa.

Your response to my statement was "so if someone is poor they shouldn't have children", implying that was MY message.  It was not.

No, it was implying it was MY message and nothing more, it's not always about you.

So when you said "So if someone is poor they shouldn't have children, thank you Captain Obvious, now send that message to the continent of Africa", you weren't talking to/about me?  :flowstone:

Webster and BubbaGump are pretending.  You, me, and balls are aligned as I pointed out a few posts ago.

1. The title of this thread is "Rich kids do better than poor kids" it is literally about the kind of luck that gets you born rich.

2. Sure, you can ask me what i'm trying to accomplish if you want to.  I'm working on starting an aquaponic farm to exploit sunshine and vertical space to grow fish, vegetables, berries, and produce biogas from the digested fish waste.

3.  I'm not saying that people should not take pride in their accomplishments.  I am saying that the world might be a nicer place for everyone if the luckiest people  acknowledged (at least to themselves) the role that luck has played in their success.

Barry Schwartz has a good lecture on just this topic that i have tried to show people in this sub several times.

Not to mention, that woman isnt walking around acting like she went to night school and worked 2 jobs to be born with those tits, and chastising the flat chested women for being lazy...
