WiFi Experiences

So i would like to hear about your WiFi experiences, if u use WiFi at home.
Just now, i bought a Netgear N600 WiFi Extender in hopes of expanding my WiFi signal to the bottom floor of my house since the main router is on the top floor (i live on the bottom floor). On the top floor, i have a Netgear N600 which i bought about 2 years ago for $80 or so. Ive been pleased with its performance.
Currently, the signal in my bedroom is pretty weak, about 2 to 1 WiFi "bars". Im hoping my extender will improve that.
So whats your experiences? what kind of hardware do u use?

My apartment has fiber optic to a cabinet int the closet then ethernet cables to every room. I put an asus rt-ac1900 router in the bedroom for a wifi access point.

I bought the most expensive router I could find at k-mart and the thing never updates it's router page like I could change all the setting and what it displays on the settings page is completely different lol it's this belkin crap
it's stupid though you spend 80 bucks on a router and the internet company won't even give you decent internet speed, in places like Japan it's virtually free...I'm at the point were my router is like 500mb/ps down but I only get 3 from the internet company.. fucking crooks

Fiber optic indoors? awesome!
Yah, i have recently realized that routers go by megaBITS when i thought they were megaBITES. Subtle but important difference.
When i use my X One, i can really see the performance of my router. It seems pretty decent.
Im confused by why theres a seperate "megabits" format for calculating up/down speed for internet instead of using megabites...

Networks would measure in bits per second well before gigabyte drives were even a thing, so it might have just carried over.

Well drives measure things as whole bytes, but modems (which stand for modulator/demodulator) are only concerned that bits are transmitted successfully, because they lump bits together independent of the file they belong to.

That and it sounds bigger. Also, they probably are using a smaller "mega" than your OS probably does. To internet and hard drive marketers, "mega" is 1,000,000 and "giga" is 1,000,000,000, but in most OSes, mega is 1,048,576 (1024^2) and giga is 1,073,741,824 (1024^3). The discrepancy gets more pronounced with higher units.

Right now I live in a 400 sq ft studio apartment so one router and my 50mbps is more than enough for me(the max amount of devices that I use simultaneously myself is three, and that's rare - usually it's just my phone and one laptop). Might get a little slow if there's 7 devices trying to get online, but I can't comfortable fit enough people in my apartment for that to be an issue unless people are connecting phones, playstations, and laptops. I pay 50/month(comcast) and I get like 45 channels and hbo, but I use my tv as a second monitor and nothing more so it's really overkill. It's no term and the price goes up after a year, but I'm moving into a 5 bedroom house in a couple of weeks so I'm going to cancel it - when I've been there the wifi seems okay but I haven't had to use it much, so I'll probably get a repeater/extender- I've had a netgear one before and was happy with it. There's only been 4 people there until I move in, so if we upgrade then everyone will probably be paying the same thing anyways so I'll probably suggest we do that.

UPDATE!
So i got my Wifi extender, arrived 8 days early! (thanks ebay and USPS) was supposed to come the 17th.
Super easy to set up. Netgears my fav. I had to put it on a different outlet than i originally planned cause it sticks out about 4 inches from the wall, and would have been a shin-banger on the old placement.
Whats cool is that it relays the signal, so u use the login password for your original router to connect to the extender.
Im currently in my bedroom, and its fluxing between 2 bars and 3 bars! before it was a lot of fluxing between 0 bars and 3 bars.
It seems much more stable now. So fast with the boasted signal strenght. Fuck yah.
Wifi extenders FTW

coming back to bump this thread because strangely enough...as soon as I cancelled my comcast subscription(effective January 31st..so I'm using it right now) it is SIGNIFICANTLY slower.

just an interesting tidbit.
I'll update on the wifi in the new house sometime next week.
One of the couples I'm moving in with is planning on moving to San Francisco contingent on a job offer they're getting...so we may hold off on upgrading, either way I will keep you posted.

yeah they're peices of shit all right this website that's banned her lets you download video's and when you do it there it takes literally 3 seconds for an mp3 but when I do it normally it takes like a whole minute one of them bypasses and the other gets strangled by my internet provider

Hmmm
Thats weird.
I had a weird experience with Comcast recently: I saw my bill had "3" digital tv adapters, even thou i only had two. I called to fix the problem.
I said "can u remove one?". When i did, it removed one of the services for one of the TV adapter. Then i said "no wrong one" and they said "Ok, whats your other digital adapter serial number?" i gave it to them and thought it would remove the mysterous thrid one. Nope, it cancelled the service for my bedroom adapter. Confused as hell
I havent called them back to reactivate but will soon cause its only like $10 a month for the adapter.
