Bulk Question, Horse poo, BRF cakes

Hey Guys,
So I'm thinking about growing this time around using a bulk substrate. I've read a bit up on it and also watched Willy Mycos "lets grow bulk" video on youtube. And i would just like to clarify a couple things.
So when spawning to bulk, you typically want to use grains to spawn to the substrate, but in Willy Myco's video he says that you can also "Shred the BRF cakes with a cheese grater, and layer them with bulk substrate (i plan on using Manure based substrate from Out-grow) let it colonize for about a week, and put into your fruiting chamber with same conditions as you would the cakes.
how likely is contamination to occur during this stage of re-colonizing the bulk substrate?
After the BRF cakes have been shredded, doesnt that damage the Mycelium significantly? or is the mycelium able to recover after being shredded?
As long as your manure is sterilized, the mycelium should have plenty of time to take foothold of the substrate before any other contamination can happen. is this a correct statement?
As far as re-hydrating the substrate after a first flush, what would be your suggestions for doing this? I heard you can just basically soak the tray for a couple hours, then drain the excess off and you are ready for a second flush.
It seems like a pretty easy and simple extra step for a lot more fruitbodies, it almost seems to good to be true, just wondering if it is actually this simple and if i am missing anything?
Thanks!

From what I've read you want to pasteurize your manure, rather than sterilize.
The mycelium should recover after being shredded. The energy that's used to recover could have been used to produce pins quicker if left with cakes, but if you're getting a bigger yield going to bulk with your cakes then I guess it's up to you if you want a quicker time to fruiting or a slightly bigger yield. I can't speak to experience on this so someone correct me if I'm wrong. I plan to try this as well though.

most people here will advise that coir/verm is better to use than manure...and I would agree. its also cheaper than buying horse manure and much less likely to contam.
you can crumple cakes in a plastic bag by just squeezing until crumbled nicely, I recommend doing that instead of the grater, much easier imo.
the mycelium will recover, it being stronger or weaker afterwards, ive heard both stories on that.
you also don't have to wait the extra week for cakes to colonize if youre using bulk..just make sure they are 100% colonized.
dunking, I always just run my tray under water for a few min and then drain excess water.
by doing this youre not %100 going to get a bigger yield, for 1 using cakes as bulk 2..using a MS syringe ..its really a gamble.
again, must pros here will say..use cakes as cakes. however you can be very successful doing it, and it is rather easy.

thanks for the informative reply.
I have just ordered some Manure Based Substrate and a Rye Grain Bag from outgrow.
after reading reviews on the product, It really seems like a 50-50 chance of these products in themselves being successful. Apparrently, they seem to contaminate rather easily, but my theory is that this is occuring because the Micro filter on the bag is getting wet somehow, and therefore allowing contams to seep through to the substrate,
Im going to attempt the rye grain bags just to see if they work, but im also going to do the standard BRF cake method to guarantee results. I will use the rye grains for the bulk substrate.
As far as the brand Out-Grow, anyone have any experience with it? the Rye Grains and Manure substrate specifically.
Also, Ive heard that when you spawn to bulk that you generally want to do a 1:2 ratio , Grains to Substrate. I just so happened to purchase a 2lb bag of grains and a 1lb bag of substrate.
In theory, if i use that formula in reverse, having more rye berries than substrate, I should be able to have the entirety of the rye berry - manure substrate colonize quicker. Does this sound accurate?

bucket tek is the way to go...
I've never used manure but from what I've been reading it seems like people aren't finding much of a use for it anymore, cvg is just as good...
can an old hand clarify this for me?

Who said what now?
I think what most people on here will advise you to do is use whats easy and convenient. For a lot of people thats coir/verm
