Agar Log
Date 01/04/17
Potato Dextrose Agar Recipe-
500ml or half liter distilled water 100 grams cut up UPEELED potatoes
10 grams Dextrose (organic light honey, organic corn syrup, corn sugar) i used Busy Bee 100% clove Honey
1-2 grams of Brewers Yeast (optional)
10-12 grams Agar (12 grams will make it really firm)
Process
I boiled the potatoes in 500ml of distilled water (some ill evaporate so keep about 200ml to the side youll need it) for 45 min on med low
then i strained the water and added my 200ml to compensate for the loss from evaporation
and i let it cool for about 30 minutes
then i mixed the honey agar and yeast together until all was mixed then added to the water and stirred until clumps were all gone using a fork
then i poured it in 5 baby food jars with one hole on the top and covered with foil
pressure cook for 45- hour too long and u can cook agar too long so be careful
then let agar cool
once cool using GB (glove box) i inoculated all five jars using about one to two drops of spore solution
IF I FUCKED UP PLEASE DONT JUST SAY U FUCKED UP TELL ME HOW
i was shown by i guy who hasn't done this in about 8 years and hes the one helping me so before i try other ways i wanted to give his outdated ways a try lol and with a mixture of learning from him and my experiences and you guys for help i should be a master soon!
thanks in advance

for the most part you're on track the only modifications i would suggest you consider are that if you're going to use yeast i think you're supposed to use nutritional yeast but from what i see of my own and others experience it isn't really necessary. and 45 minutes is longer than you need to PC the jars for, 20 minutes seems to be what the consensus is. and that amount of honey seems high. my understanding is that a few drops per cup of water are enough. and using cooked potato water can be problematic because the amount of nutrients can vary and you could wind up with more than is optimal in your final product which will inhibit the growth of mycelium if the nutrients are too high. many growers use potato flakes or powder instead for this recipe. i, personally, have gotten the best results using a premade malt extract agar(MEA). it doesn't cost much more and it saves some hassle.

Still air box is what you need not a glove box Also tap water would be better than distilled for this. A bit of minerals and trace metals like copper and zinc are more beneficial than using distilled

Interesting. My tap water is pretty hard to the point of being slightly cloudy, does that make it better?
