Meanwhile, in San Francisco... sewage sloshes into prosecutors' offices (San Francisco Chronicle, 1/3/17)
Quote:
Foul-smelling water and fecal matter flowed into the San Francisco district attorney’s offices in the Hall of Justice on Tuesday, the latest sewage flood in the aging home of courtrooms, police bureaus, legal offices and jail cells.
The surge of sewage began about 3 p.m., forcing at least 30 employees to evacuate the premises at 850 Bryant St. The district attorney’s computer network was knocked offline when the water seeped into the server room.
As the mess oozed into at least a dozen offices on the third floor and dripped into the domestic violence unit on the floor below, prosecutors scrambled to save their files and belongings, with some wrapping plastic bags around their feet before wading into the pond.
“They would never allow this to happen at City Hall,” an employee muttered as a putrid odor permeated through the entire third floor, including several Superior Court rooms.
...
In September, one of District Attorney George Gascón’s staffers stepped outside an office on the fourth floor to find feces that was described by office spokesman Alex Bastian as “unequivocally human.”
The origin of Tuesday’s flood is unknown. In the past, officials believed that urine dripping from the ceiling on the third floor came from the jailhouse toilets located on the floor above.

That law just makes it so the little kids being exploited and trafficked aren't subjected to charges.
It's a law to acknowledge them as victims not perpetrators, if you pimp children or solicit them you will still go to prison.

So...you're in favor?
Quote:
So what can law enforcement in California do when they encounter a child selling themselves on the street for sex? The Sacramento Bee explains, “Commercially sexually exploited children, based on the bill’s analysis, may be taken into temporary custody ‘if the minor has an immediate need for medical care, or … is in immediate danger of physical or sexual abuse, or the physical environment’ or the child’s unattended status ‘poses an immediate threat to the child’s health or safety.’ “

...Isn't a child prostitute inherently in immediate danger of sexual abuse?? This seems to imply that there's a right way for a child to be prostituted. Holy fucking shit.

It doesn't seem to imply that at all. It implies that the police can separate the adolescent from the situation without charging them with a crime as a juvenile.

I shouldn't be surprised. The other day I was in San Francisco at the parking garage in the middle of a huge commercial district where people take their families, and I shit you not there was a giant ad display for a space-age ergonomic sex toy in the first floor lobby.

It seems to imply that children were criminalised at some time.
I had a family member, who, along with a friend, at the age of 13/14, used to regularly go to a public toilet 'rest room' for sex 'cottaging'. The fact that they got paid as 'rent boys' for their time was seen as an added bonus.
One of them got caught in the back of a vehicle with a man by the police, at which ensued a horribly traumatising event. His father was called, a medical examination, against the boys will was carried out on him, and the man he was caught with was charged with whatever the fuck they could throw at him.
What the fuck any of this has to do with OP's thread is beyond me. I'm jus drunking it up so...

The law renders the police unable to interfere with a child being a prostitute, except in the case that their life is in immenant threat or are injured. Otherwise, they have to leave the child in the situation where he or she is being exploited.
And even after they interfere in the two exception cases, the police are to get their evident injuries addressed, and then that's it.

I can see where the confusion is coming from, but a child's safety is always at risk when they are being prostituted. They don't need to explicitly state that it is always at risk in these relationships within the text of the law, and the law might be more effective without strict parameters for law enforcement to abide by regarding how to determine if a child is being exploited sexually or not.
I'm not even saying it's a great law or anything. I haven't read it, nor have I studied laws of this type across different regions - I'm going on just the information you've brought up, and if I'm to take the article you posted word for word then they are pretty clearly twisting something to promote a specific narrative - specifically that liberally run California has endorsed pedophilia. It makes for a head turning headline and ignores the intent and application of the law as it's written, and does so purposefully. It's essentially sensationalist clickbait.

Like if a cop thinks a particular child prostitute is doing a great job being a child prostitute, for example

This whole anti-authority thing comes off really childish
Child prostitutes are often lured away from home by pimps, taken to another town and forced to "work". So instead of taking the child into the custody of the state, they can take them home.
Under the blanket knee-jerk law you would like, the child would go into state custody instead of going home. This is just one example of why laws should be written with room to breathe.

What the fuck? That is some seriously twisted reasoning. It definitely shouldn't be decriminalized to prostitute kids. I don't know the laws in California, but if you're saying that when kids are kidnapped and pimped out they cannot go back home after they are saved, then that's just retarded and maybe you should be advocating for a law changing that, not legalizing child prostitution. People who are prostituting kids should definitely be executed.

Also, if this is for child protection, why is it for kids ages 12-up. Why not just "under 18"?

That's because you hang out where bassnectar gets gigs. The nicest place you have probably been in the city is a run down hanger in dog patch with port o potties. Keep going there and stay away from our nice areas please. Actually, never come back.
