PF-Tek formula into PP5 bottles ... colonize then case the bottles with verm (like Muda-bottles) and grow em in the bottles in an appropriately sized mono ... That's gotta be the easiest, lowest contam risk possible way to grow mushrooms.

I was so obsessed with the RH when I first started growing
Google searching is possibly the worst way to get into this hobby.

The PFtek that I followed years ago suggested hollowing out your PF cakes and filling with verm so that once colonized you could inject water into that verm pocket with your syringe.

Luckily I found a better one last april when I decided to give it another shot

I hate SGFCs too. I fruit every thing in monos. If it can be fruited in a shotgun, it can be fruited more easily in a mono.

I've never really understood why so many advise SGFC's for a person's first PF-tek growing experience... fanning ... misting ... fanning ... misting ... flooding the zone with a river of contaminants ... Keeping the perlite wet ... drilling a bazillion holes ... messy ... heavy ... drippy ... a magnet for insects ...

I just don't get it.

I think it's just habit. So many people started out with cakes in a SGFC. The thought of fruiting a cake in anything else is just so Strange.

Hahahaha.  I saw that one too, almost did it.  Also saw one where a guy jammed a drinking straw in to the middle of his cake and watered it through the straw, damn near did that one too.

I don't wanna seem like a dick or anything cause I agree with what you said but those fruits look kinda stringy like they need air. I could be wrong tho
How do you set those things up?

Ahaha I saw the drinking straw one too :lmafo:

RGS cased with Verm ... about a week after casing, I take the PP5 lids off and replace with those hoods that allow more air.  Easy to adjust for how much air you want going in and out.  Bottom water after the pins start growing.

The top picture is a culture that tends to grow big, tall fruits with thinner stems.  Had a couple of 10-11 inch tall ones last month.

the upside down pp5 is interesting. kind of a mini lid.. ill try that since the jar will
be all alone in the mini and its dry as fuck in my house right now.

And if they get really "BIG"  you put put on a quart sized PP5 to give em more headroom.

You can also just open a ziplock sandwich bag and place over the jar mouth with success.
Bodhisatta has a shit tonne of pics somewhere he could link if he were here right now

I'm excited to see what that debris jar has to offer!

ive done that with this invitro jar i had..

got like a half oz dry from a bacterial pint.

the myc had no issues colonizing the sticks and random pieces of whatnot that i
normally discard. chances are ill keep skimming it off cause it looks gross...

..unless the debris makes for like super insanity shrooms but i doubt it :p

I did plastic bags for awhile and they were just too much of a hassle, drippy, messy.  I figured out how to make those coupling collars for the upside down PP5's and never looked back.  On a stealthy little 12' x 24" bookshelf, I can have a dozen of those jars going no problem and completely hide it if anyone's in the house with a small poster.

They've turned out to be perfect for a new cloning method I'm using going straight from a tiny amount of clone tissue straight the RGS.

Unless you are doing less than 4 at a time I find it easier just to toss them in a tub.

Have i calculated this right, i have a straw log 68.58 cm long with a radius of 5 cm - google says that equates to 5386.26 cubic centimeters.

Apparently there is 1000 cubic cm in a litre - that makes my log 5.3 litre

Does that mean i only need half a litre of oyster spawn for a log this size? doesnt seem right to me

Yea you calculated the volume of a cylinder correctly.  Make sure that you measure that radius dimension accurately.  Adding just 1cm to the radius would result in a gain of 2.4 litres in volume.  So if you measured 5cm but in reality it turns out to be 6cm then you will have a pretty large error.

I think im going to follow your advice muda and chuck it all in a mono.

Should be easier to get rid of that bacteria.

Is this not ideal as its soo big?

Also where should I put those King cakes in the middle of winter and do I just mist them.  Im bottom watering as they look thirsty and have shrunk my  substrate.
