Myrtillocactus surprise!

Happy New Years guys! Hey I got a bit excited today when I saw this one looking variegated on one side. Could it be a disease though? The parent plant wasn't variegated I don't think. When I bought it I discovered it had no roots so in a slack fashion I put it in a pot with some succulents and forgot about it until a couple of weeks ago when I decided to pot it up. I didn't notice until today when I gave it a water that it looks variegated. Can stress cause variegation too? Organisms in the soil? I don't know much about the subject. Sorry for all the questions.

It could be too and I had thought of that but I'm pretty sure that side of the cactus was facing away from the sun and it has been in a green house since I re-potted it a couple of weeks ago. Possible though I guess.

It's hard to tell from the picture, and my knowledge of diseases is limited, but it looks like one of those mosaic virus things.

My limited experience leads me to agree with saythatagain...it looks like it could be viral. I would quarantine the plant, as it can spread to your others....if it is TMV in particular it doesn't seem to hurt the plants, but who wants to contaminate their garden with this. I learned too late, my garden is compromised.
This is what I have on my plants, the circles indicate a possible virus, which yours appear it may also have

Thanks for your replies. I went a way and did some research on the TMV and also had a rethink about the sunburn possibility. I'm leaning towards heat/sun damage now as it could of been facing the sun and before it was re-potted it was in a fairly shady spot. I don't know how protective the plastic is in the mini green house either and we have had hot weather lately.
Certainly bad luck mandrin with the cactus having TMV and that does look very much like the pics I have seen. The pale circular and blotchy patches seems typical and I don't think that is what I'm seeing on mine. Although I had a look at a new San Pedro of mine and I think it looks like it could have TMV I could chuck that or quarantine it. I'll keep the Myrtillocactus separate too. Is that what you mean when you say quarantine? I could bring that inside and put the San Pedro around the front away from the others. All but one of my cacti are in the greenhouse or outside now.
I think that greenhouse gets too hot even though I leave the door open during the day. It's hard for me to say what one cactus likes or doesn't like. I'm just trying not to kill them at the moment and learning a lot. It's so good I can come here and ask questions. Thanks.

Yeah just get them away from the others, I read that insects can transfer it, and a virus is easily spread after rain, so don't move them around when wet. I also am not positive yours is a virus but I would isolate them in the meantime to be safe.
My circular pattern goes around the cactus, so I know it is not sunburn. I also see it emerging from new growth on a bridgesii, so it seems it will grow in for a few inches (), and then returns normal for another few inches...and then will reappear with a new patch, though some do still have spots scattered throughout the cactus. I am hoping it is ferts or rain or something as it is almost as if something triggers it for a bit, but I am doubtful....it is probably some kind of cactus herpes.
Good luck.

Mosaic virus can be pretty cool, I've even seen vendors charge a premium for attractive scars.
