If you're 18 to 30 years old. Read this and thank me 10 years from now. 6

So you're a 18 year old infant or a 29 year old toddler? You're about to go study in a field where no potential jobs and pay 30k to get that useless piece of paper? Good for you.
But now you have a problem. You have no job prospect and a useless piece of paper you have to buy a 30$ frame for and 30k of debt to reimburse. Bummer.
Well I have the answer and it's gonna fucking suck but it's a must nowadays. Jobs are scarce and the cost of living is increasing every day. The deck is stacked against you and I don't want to hear you bitch about it once you whiny little fuck. So apply these rules to your life right now and future self will love you.
1. Take care of yourself. Exercise and eat well. That should be a basic, not even worth mentioning thing, but apparently it has to be reminded on a weekly basis. Massages when needed, yearly doctor and dentists visits.
2. You need to downgrade. Like seriously downgrade. All of it can be done in 4 hours.
- Grab a black garbage bag and open every drawer and closet door and toss everything you haven't used in a year. And don't give me that emotional attachment to inanimate object crap. Toss the useless. Less clutter, better mental environment. If you bring it to the thrift shop, you can make someone else happy. You garbage is someone else's treasure.
- Buy yourself a plant. It sucks in the CO2 out of the air and shits out oxygen. It's good for you and it looks good.
- Call your phone provider and shift to a lower plan. Limit your phone calls and use free stuff like Facebook. You don't need to watch YouTube on the bus. Music is fine and so are free apps.
- Same for Internet. You can wait an extra second for the page to load and believe or not, it won't kill you. Downgrade to a lower plan
- Do you live alone in a 2 bedroom apartment, if so, WTF are you doing? Get and roommate (but I like being on my own boohoohoo). Suck it up or move to a one bedroom place. You tossed out the clutter, you have space now. Moving isn't all that stressful when you no longer have to pack useless shit.
- How many glasses can you drink out of at the same time? How many plates can you eat off at same time? Clear it up, you don't need 30 forks and 15 plates. Goodwill. It'll force you to clean up more often.
- You need new furniture and it costs 500$? Go to a thrift shop get a solid wood piece for 50$, buy 5$ worth of sandpaper and 15$ worth of varnish and refinish it. It's easy, it looks awesome and you'll have accomplished something.
- You're not allowed to have a life anymore. No bars. No expensive booze. You want to get wasted, then buy cheap vodka. It'll fuck you as much as a bottle of Patron.
- If you're gonna clean up shit, do it for everything. Facebook friends you haven't talked to in a year? Unfriend them. Same for cellphone contacts. Same for whatever other shit you have, whether is points card or pointless twitter feeds and click bait Facebook subscription. Toss it all.
- Download Reebee. It's a flyers app. You'll save a shit ton of cash. I've saved maybe 2k just by stocking up on sale. Walk the extra distance to another store, it's exercise and well worth it.
- Don't go steak and chicken. Go beans and quinoa. Cheaper, healthier, better for the environment, better for your brain, better everything. You body and wallet will love you for it. There are amazing recipes out there.
- Still drinking pop and sugar water marketed as orange juice? Stop that shit. You're killing you're pancreas and your wallet. I just stopped drinking pop 9 months ago. It wasn't hard at all.
- You have a friend you prefer not replying to? Tell him politely that you would like to end the friendship based on lack of same interests. If he's remotely intelligent, he'll understand. Less clutter. Less dumb ass stress over pointless shit.
- You actually need something (not want, need). Go for something high quality. Cheap shit that breaks is a useless stress, it'll always break when you need it most too... So go high quality and keep clean and well maintained.
- Manage your time. Use it wisely. The time machine you're working on isn't finished yet so until then every second gone by is a second you'll never have again.
- You have to pay for water and electricity? It's cold? Put a shirt on. Wanna save water without having to dehydrate yourself? Fill up a glass bottle (salsa containment) put the lid on and let it sink into your toilet water tank. It'll take up space which means less water per flush and you won't see the difference until the bill comes. Trust me on this, I was hella surprised to see how much I saved by doing this and so will you.
- Use ad blockers on your laptop. Less aggravation and less influence from marketing. You don't need to be tempted by a slap chop at this point in your life. No matter how convincing that son of a bitch is.
3. Your environment should be clean at all time. Not slobbing around, no clothes on the floor, no piss jugs about to tip over from the top shelf of your bookshelf. You're a human and you can clean your environment. Even birds clean up their nests. Do the dishes you dirty fuck cause remember, you have 3 plates now, you have no choice. It's a basic thing too many people ignore. You're not on welfare therefore you shouldn't live like you're on welfare. Sparkle and shine motherfucker.
4. Friends, girlfriends and social outings. To be kept at a strict minimum. "Hey lets go to the bar", "wanna go to the water park?", "Honey let go the city this weekend and have dinner and a movie, maybe a hotel room?"... No, no, no and no. Fuck no. Do something local. Do something cheap. It's their presence that makes things fun, not the activity you do. Play cards, board games, picnics, go for a walk. You'll be happier too.
5. Yes you can do it. With ease too. I did that when I was 17 and I'm only a year or 2 from being able to stop. I've managed to gather assets. I've found mental peace. I'm officially happy and by far the most important thing that comes out of all of this is that I'm currently attempting to chase a one in a million dream of playing poker for a living. Why? Because I'd rather lose money than feel regret for not trying and also, because I fucking can. I lived by the rules I listed and I've put myself in a position where I can attempt whatever I what.
So there you go infants and toddlers. Live by those rules and 35 year old you will have the option of quitting that dead end job and actually trying to live a dream of yours.
Add extra wisdom if needed. Peace!

Don't buy any shitty Chinese plastic containers to hold things in.
Buy a glass of anything at the supermarket and clean out the glass when your done for a perfect glass container.
Mayo, gherkins(bigger glass the better), pickled onions, ready made sauces etc.
There's no excuse for wastefulness.
There are Facebook groups called free your stuff to give away your unwanted stuff and to request others' unwanted stuff.
Big glass alcohol bottles are reusable water bottles, plus you'll look the part swigging out of booze bottles all the time.
Surprise your colleagues and loved ones with the joke water bottle. Boy will their faces be red when they realise you don't have a drinking problem, but just enjoy conserving bottles and trying to lessen your contribution to the worlds destruction at our hands.

Regarding the toilet flush, this flusher doesn't have a set flush time.
Number ones, you can just press it for a second.
Number twos, a little longer.
You can also just leave it pressed down for a full long flush.
With this cistern, you write your own script.

Good post, I disagree with your assertions on chicken though. It goes good with the stuff you've mentioned and isn't so expensive that I'd cut it out of my life.
I'm pretty anti-clutter, and habitually toss or donate stuff I don't use. So I agree with a lot of that. Plants are good to have too.
I get what you're saying about cutting contact with friends and stuff, but I'd opt for a more subtle way of doing so. No need to burn bridges by essentially saying, "I don't like you very much and think we should cease conversation entirely". Seems needless.
Agreed on high quality products and tools. Shampoos, razors, skin moisturizers come to mind as well - good quality products are noticeably better and I'd rather not use anything than use shitty products that dry out your skin or cut your face.
Speakers/headphones, instruments and daily use electronics like computers and phones all come to mind as well if they are within reason. No use in buying speakers at all for any reason if you'll be unhappy with their quality in a month. I buy stuff like this from pawn stores typically thought to save some cash. Wouldn't recommend using pawn stores to sell your stuff, but they are an awesome resource for actually buying stuff and I always check them out first if I'm looking for something (tool sets, power tools, electronics, instruments, whatever).
I'd add this: Don't buy new cars off the lot. A Sedan or SUV with 10,000 miles on it is just as good as one with 200 and probably close to half the price if not just a little more.
Save 20% of your check and don't touch it till your in your 50's or 60's - if you can't save that much per check, you're living beyond your means or need to find new work. This doesn't apply to lower income lifestyles, I'm talking purely of people working dead end jobs for corporate interests. If you've worked at a fast food place or restaurant for a year and aren't a manager yet, find a new job - you've become too well trained and valuable as a wage slave to promote to anything, and the shifts require your presence. That or you just suck at your job and aren't going to get promoted.
Don't buy anything compulsively, if you see something you want at a best buy or online, sleep on it for the night before purchasing.
And only go grocery shopping after a full meal to avoid buying stuff only because you are hungry. Plan every single meal out for the week or for two weeks ahead of time and put it down on a calendar, you'll save money, time and will always know what to eat when.

Good advice and im with you on the friends thing as well as your other points.
Planning every meal 2 weeks in advance sounds needlessly OCD however, and sort of takes the fun out of eating IMO.

I started doing so about a year ago. I find something new to cook almost every week, and have gotten pretty elaborate cooking a lot of Mexican, Indian, Greek type foods that I never would have cooked before hand. When I'm not trying new stuff and am cooking more easy stuff, it's usually fish or chicken with fresh veggies and stuff.
I see what you're saying, but it's actually made eating more fun for me, because I'm trying out new things rather than staring blindly into the cupboards and fridge not knowing what I should eat.

I dont unfriend people unless they bother me That said I dont add randos
Influence and network depth might come in handy some day, cutting those razor thin seems nonessential and even counterproductive.
That might be something you do but I dont see it as good advice is sticks out amongst all the rest of it which is actually solid advice.

Do you really need to see what some girl's cat is eating for dinner? Do you really need to read yet another cheesy quote? Do you really need yet another click bait shit reposted?
FB can be useful if you only keep the useful posters. 90% of it is bullshit like "95% of people won't share this, are you gonna be one of them?".... Yeah I am... Fuck off. Know what I mean?

I've never used facebook. It's weird, because even my grand-parents and parents use facebook actively. I just never got into it. If I live to my 90's I'll probably be a lonely old man because I never used facebook, but that's okay.

I don't need to see any of that but th reason i habitually visit the site nearly everyday is because like 1 out of 100 posts might make me exhale through my nostrils faster than usual and I sorta chase that. It's bad though, such a waste of time, I feel so time wasted after I don't get my little second of amusement out of it.

I only have 209 friends on facebook and they're all people who I have known at one point in time. I'd rather not go and delete people who were once good friends just because I haven't spoken to them in a year. It's not like I intend to never contact them again. And every so often I get people from my past who contact me wanting to hang out or something.
Besides that I need the comments, likes and shares when I post memes.

Stop buying drugs. Grow what you can. If you can't grow it, it's not all that necessary.
Don't get cable. Yes get cheap Internet. All the stations you need are easily received with an antenna. Tv is a waste of time.
Don't date or fuck around with girls until ya got money to pay for kids. Lot's of guys end up with more child support than income. If all else double bag that sucka or talk about abortions and or birth control. Cheap sluts have value too.
Don't get loans to start with. You will pay more than it will ever be worth. Get land contracts.
Be nice to your parents and do free stuff for them. Be nice to everyone but blow off the drug hook ups more. The dealers don't want friends, just money.
If your friends revolve around drugs, that won't last. Gotta be more substantial.
Read the legal codes!

the fucking return investment man.
cheap houses tend to get "cheaper" (i.e., shittier, because of the owners not being able to afford common repairs etc...) more expensive homes (more than likely newer, bigger, better) retain value better and are probably in a better neighborhood.
what you dont want to do is rent. rent is only helping the owner pay off his mortgage and taxes with your paycheck so in essence it's a free investment when they decide to sell. you are basically their employee by living there.
and remember, it's not buying an expensive house that may break your budget. the keyword here is AFFORD.

I think cheaper housing might provide a better return on investment in the long run, but it depends on locale for sure. Even then, with it being unpredictable some years I'd almost feel safer just investing money into an index fund or something. You'd have to be in at the perfect time to get a solid ROI for an overpriced house, and then you have to worry about selling it when you want as well.

ROI completely depends on the location, the city, the neighborhood, the schools nearby, the sectors reputation etc. You cant say if big or small is good by specualtion alone.

$52 where I am from gets you a house in the worst area, in a flood plane, with no resell value at all. I know a guy that bought a house for that and in the same situation is you. Just depends on how desirable of place the surrounding area is to live, along with the school system and job market.
Housing market is also back to a sellers market in most places, yet home ownership is an all time low for first time home buyers. I can't wait for regulation to change that will allow me to get a mortgage.

Neighborhood has gone for 100k with some houses. The past owners of this house I am in had bad tenants and wanted out of their deal. It was a land contract and the tenants only paid the first payment over 2 years, no rent.
It would go for 300k out west easily.
80k will get you a dozen acres here. With barn and free natural gas!

These are suggestions from a 31 year old retail book clerk? You have assets, but did you you buy your property on the open market with money you saved? I thought you got it from family? People reading this with low paying job and high student debt will likely never own property. Having roommates kept me awake and make me unable to work more. Since living alone I l have more money not less. That's my suggestion for a better life work as much as you can. If your one job isn't paying that well get two, get three. I don't go out much because I am working all the time, not because I am too cheap to buy a drink. Sitting at home drinking moonshine is kind of depressing, buying that 5 dollar drink once in a while at the bar is a good thing. Throwing stuff out I don't use is going to change anything, my space is huge it's not cluttered. Holding on to some stuff makes it increase in value anyway. I wish i had a lot of stuff I threw away. The book/magazine I haven't read in 5 years isn't getting sold for a dollar just because I haven't looked at it in ages. Having stuff is only a hassle when I move, otherwise it doesn't effect my life in any way. Most of it is in the storage room anyway, maybe if you have hoarders type shit going on you should throw out a bunch of stuff, but no I am not throwing out stuff just because it hasn't been used recently. Are you really giving advice on cheap dating? Wasn't there a tea issue on one your of your dates? I vaguely recall that. Life is expensive, you'll probably die young anyway, I guess you want to be buried with it. Did you suggest getting furniture from a thrift shop? Furniture is the one thing you should not scrimp on or buy used, bed bugs are everywhere and you don't want any of that shit. Why would I delete people out of my life that I don't talk to? Those people are the reason I can get any drug known to man, everyone has a use. Deleting people off facebook? Why? I use those people to make money, more friends equals more money. I don't understand your mentality. If they post stupid shit stop following them. You control the facebook, you control your feed. It's kind of ironic you are telling people not waste time online when this site is the biggest most useless waste of time there is and you have 33 thousand posts. Maybe you should take you own advice. Like I guess the no piss jugs advice was pretty solid.

The throwing out shit bothers me. My chick is a super minimalist and she always ends up throwing away something I need that she thought wasn't important. I get not being a hoarder... but there IS value in having some stuff.. having the right tool for the job, having the right whatever when you need it. I get pissed when I go to look for something and then I realize I threw it away. I remember my mom threw away all my magic cards and baseball cards when she was "cleaning out junk" way back in the day. I had a killer fucking collection. Signed Lou Gherig, Willy Mays.. lots of valuable mint baseball cards.. all the first gen rare Magic cards like Shivan Dragon, Black Lotuses.. Time Walk.. Mox Emerald/Sapphires.. I come to find a few years ago some of those cards are now worth 30k-40k each. Absolute fucking insanity. I could have bought a house.. for a little box of cards. Was it taking up so much space to inconvenience life so much? SAVE THAT FUCKING SHIT. I get not stacking up 30 years worth of newspapers, that's stupid.. but something that is collectible and can/will go up in value?
And then there's stupid shit like, I will grab a couple long pieces of bamboo cause its cool and long sticks come in handy and leave them leaning against the fence in the yard the corner, not hurting anyone.. she will throw them out because they are "cluttering up the yard". Then a week later she will be doing something and need a long stick for something and ask me and I'm like GEE SURE WOULD BE NICE IF I HAD A NICE LONG STRAIGHT STICK OF BAMBOO HOW HANDY WOULD THAT BE
Don't be a hoarder.. sure... but don't be an OCD freak either that throws out perfectly useful shit that isn't interfering with your life in any single way
Intelligent people have messy ass desks.. it is known. Enhances creativity. House can be clean but my desk will always forever be cluttered. My chick accepts this. She even cleans and organizes it sometimes for me, lasts 5 minutes tops.
I don't believe in being cheap. Buy cheap where it doesn't matter, sure... save money where you can.. sure. But if spending a little extra means a big difference in quality especially when it comes to something like food, my health or entertainment or my passions.. then fuck I'm spending extra. Money is no good if you aren't using it. I'm not cheaping out on the things that matter to me, usually. And if there's one place you can't be cheap its dating.. I mean some chicks might be into that but for most raising shit over an iced tea would probably be a major turn off.. Life is indeed expensive. Spend it while you got it, enjoy life.
Obviously save and try to prepare for your future too, but there's no sense just having a shitload of money you never spend and you live on fucking rice and beans... what kind of life is that... ohh I have 2 million dollars in the bank and I eat gruel every day... I'd rather eat steak. Steak isn't even all that expensive.. it CAN be..
Deleting old friends I haven't talked to in years? no way. Networking MFers. I get random people I haven't heard from in many years contacting me sometimes. Bigger network of friends is more support when/if you need it for something. What is it gonna hurt your life to have a couple unnecessary friends on fbook you don't talk to? heh
And I agree with you on the want more money work smart and harder thing. Get a main job and a side job. Learn more so you advance. Do side hustles, sell shit on the side. I try to keep like 4-5 different streams going. I got my day job.. I write code on the side and sell scripts to people.. and I also build PCs and do consulting work on the side when I can... I also play a text based video game and sell digital currency in there for real money... money I'm earning as I'm working as my script is playing the game for me.. there's a honest hustle in almost everything if you really want it.

If you are young and smart, fixing up houses is a good plan. Don't get a loan though! Buy a good strong house. Know what a house can throw at you. Just because the carpet, cupboards, Windows or shingles are bad. Those are easy fixes.
Learn to put in sinks, finish a room, lite wring, replacing Windows, and tiling floors. Fresh paint is a minimum. A brick house with a steel roof will last a long time. My neighbor just put a steel roof on his by himself & his Amish sister. Might put a steel roof on mine when the current shingles get older.

Was it taking up so much space to inconvenience life so much? SAVE THAT FUCKING SHIT.
That is completely maddening. Best not to dwell on that one

Agree with most except the cheap booze. Just stop drinking as much and treat to top shelf bottles as I've noticed a huge difference in quality boozes is less hangover and better buzzes.
Also nothing wrong with spending money for experiences. I spent all my finances for two years on traveling and seeing new things and places and wouldn't trade that for anything. Livin way more frugally now haha

It's their 1960s version of damage control and diversion but man it's painfully obvious in 2017

I'm thank you now for your good intentions and common sense.
Thanks buddy

unfortunately a lot of this stuff also takes willpower. The going out thing? Yeeeeah, not one I'm necessarily looking to follow - I'm pretty financially responsible. I'm 24 and not in any debt with a good credit score, retirement fund, and insurance of all kinds up to my eyeballs, and while I could certainly be saving more I don't live pay check to pay check(though tbh, that's relatively recent). But I am not looking at buying a house anytime soon, not saving for that(..more like...my vacation next fall ), and I live in a big city..so there's no way I'm not gonna spend some money experiencing it. Actually one of my resolutions is to experience it a little more and have more fun this year.
I'm cutting back on rent and moving back in with roommates to do so though, it's saving me close to 600 dollars in rent alone to move in with them, so yah.

My sisters did it right. I don't have a normal life and never really did. My younger sister went to college and lived in Colorado. She loves sports and did a lot of the outdoors stuff. She got a cozy job in sales.
My older sister also went to the same college. She's just about to start her doctorate in nursing. She's traveled a hella lot. All over Europe and south America.
Lot's of guys focus on getting married and all that. Better plan for eventualities. Divorces happen. Not saying it will but have a prenuptial and some money nobody knows about. Hide it well!

FWIW you're seeing their highlights, you're not seeing the huge amounts of debt, and I would never describe a job in 'sales' as cozy - that's one cutthroat industry that I know I could never be in and be happy in. Just because those paths worked for them doesn't mean that they don't have issues, and it certainly doesn't mean that path would work for everyone.

It takes a personality to work in sales.
Both my mom and sister worked in sales. Did very well too. Sister doesn't make what mom did, but the product is a much lower value.
Trump made a fortune in sales. That's real-estate at a high level tho.
Also weapon dealers make a fortune. Hate to see what they spend on lawyers tho.

Not many people without college make big money. Sales is one way. But ya traveling and making deals would be hard.
I'd say a lot of people on this site are in more illegal sales. A good product with some audience sells itself.

Well there's only one realistic way of affording a $1000+ per week oxy habit while working landscaping.

Kids, the world does not need more psychologists and literature "experts" to serve it coffee!
Go to trade school and get a job that pays $75 000+ a year!
My younger brother is just finishing a geomatics technician course and already got hired to go work at a huge iron mine on Baffin Island in the high Canadian arctic. Entry level pay is $80 000 on a two week rotation. He's 24 years old!
I dropped out in grade 10 and last year I made $77 000 for 7 months work. The rest was vacation! Could have made $100 000 if I had worked the regular rotation! Its not a fuckton of money but it can be and its way more than what my university friends make!
Work has taken me around the world and made friends everywhere. I got a 10 bedroom home on 12 000 sq/ft lot in the burbs and savings in da bank.
Also got a cute girl who will go along anywhere with me. Wether for a family or sailboating to the carribean!
All this cause I hated highschool and learned a usefull skill set.
Work hard, be smart with your money and you can have anything you want.
If you really want to educate yourself, read a book, read wikipedia. Very cheap and you won't have to deal with retarded-leftist-libtard professors!
Learn a skill today, be a sick cunt tomorrow!

I don't know that much about oxy but is it even possible to spend 1000$ a week on them?

I like some of OP's points and all of them do make sense, if your final end goal is to acquire a lot of money. Sure if you plan or have kids, trying to set them up good for life is awesome but I you don't...
I'm not rich but I have enough money to survive and buy most things I like. But honestly stuff has never made me truly happy. It made me happy long enough to get from one purchase to the next and that's it. Sure you can probably get through life like that but that sounds like a miserable life IMO.
I don't know how one should live their life, as I'm doing it for the first time (as I can remember). Life isn't as serious as people make it out to be, IMO. We all get it, you need money to survive, but beyond that it's all just speculation.
