The throwing out shit bothers me. My chick is a super minimalist and she always ends up throwing away something I need that she thought wasn't important.
I get not being a hoarder... but there IS value in having some stuff.. having the right tool for the job, having the right whatever when you need it. I get pissed when I go to look for something and then I realize I threw it away.
I remember my mom threw away all my magic cards and baseball cards when she was "cleaning out junk" way back in the day. I had a killer fucking collection. Signed Lou Gherig, Willy Mays.. lots of valuable mint baseball cards.. all the first gen rare Magic cards like Shivan Dragon, Black Lotuses.. Time Walk.. Mox Emerald/Sapphires.. I come to find a few years ago some of those cards are now worth 30k-40k each. Absolute fucking insanity. I could have bought a house.. for a little box of cards. Was it taking up so much space to inconvenience life so much? SAVE THAT FUCKING SHIT.
I get not stacking up 30 years worth of newspapers, that's stupid.. but something that is collectible and can/will go up in value?

And then there's stupid shit like, I will grab a couple long pieces of bamboo cause its cool and long sticks come in handy and leave them leaning against the fence in the yard the corner, not hurting anyone.. she will throw them out because they are "cluttering up the yard". Then a week later she will be doing something and need a long stick for something and ask me and I'm like GEE SURE WOULD BE NICE IF I HAD A NICE LONG STRAIGHT STICK OF BAMBOO HOW HANDY WOULD THAT BE

Don't be a hoarder.. sure...  but don't be an OCD freak either that throws out perfectly useful shit that isn't interfering with your life in any single way

Intelligent people have messy ass desks.. it is known. Enhances creativity.
House can be clean but my desk will always forever be cluttered. My chick accepts this. She even cleans and organizes it sometimes for me, lasts 5 minutes tops.

I don't believe in being cheap. Buy cheap where it doesn't matter, sure... save money where you can.. sure.
But if spending a little extra means a big difference in quality especially when it comes to something like food, my health or entertainment or my passions.. then fuck I'm spending extra.
Money is no good if you aren't using it. I'm not cheaping out on the things that matter to me, usually.
And if there's one place you can't be cheap its dating.. I mean some chicks might be into that but for most raising shit over an iced tea would probably be a major turn off.. Life is indeed expensive. Spend it while you got it, enjoy life.

Obviously save and try to prepare for your future too, but there's no sense just having a shitload of money you never spend and you live on fucking rice and beans... what kind of life is that... ohh I have 2 million dollars in the bank and I eat gruel every day... I'd rather eat steak. Steak isn't even all that expensive.. it CAN be..

Deleting old friends I haven't talked to in years? no way. Networking MFers. I get random people I haven't heard from in many years contacting me sometimes. Bigger network of friends is more support when/if you need it for something. What is it gonna hurt your life to have a couple unnecessary friends on fbook you don't talk to? heh

And I agree with you on the want more money work smart and harder thing. Get a main job and a side job. Learn more so you advance. Do side hustles, sell shit on the side. I try to keep like 4-5 different streams going. I got my day job.. I write code on the side and sell scripts to people.. and I also build PCs and do consulting work on the side when I can... I also play a text based video game and sell digital currency in there for real money... money I'm earning as I'm working as my script is playing the game for me.. there's a honest hustle in almost everything if you really want it.

If you are young and smart, fixing up houses is a good plan.  Don't get a loan though!  Buy a good strong house.  Know what a house can throw at you.  Just because the carpet, cupboards, Windows or shingles are bad.  Those are easy fixes.

Learn to put in sinks, finish a room, lite wring, replacing Windows, and tiling floors.  Fresh paint is a minimum. A brick house with a steel roof will last a long time.  My neighbor just put a steel roof on his by himself & his Amish sister.  Might put a steel roof on mine when the current shingles get older.

Agree with most except the cheap booze. Just stop drinking as much and treat to top shelf bottles as I've noticed a huge difference in quality boozes is less hangover and better buzzes.

Also nothing wrong with spending money for experiences. I spent all my finances for two years on traveling and seeing new things and places and wouldn't trade that for anything. Livin way more frugally now haha

I'm thank you now for your good intentions and common sense.

Thanks buddy

:highfive:

unfortunately a lot of this stuff also takes willpower. The going out thing? Yeeeeah, not one I'm necessarily looking to follow - I'm pretty financially responsible. I'm 24 and not in any debt with a good credit score, retirement fund, and insurance of all kinds up to my eyeballs, and while I could certainly be saving more I don't live pay check to pay check(though tbh, that's relatively recent). But I am not looking at buying a house anytime soon, not saving for that(..more like...my vacation next fall ), and I live in a big city..so there's no way I'm not gonna spend some money experiencing it. Actually one of my resolutions is to experience it a little more and have more fun this year.

I'm cutting back on rent and moving back in with roommates to do so though, it's saving me close to 600 dollars in rent alone to move in with them, so yah.

My sisters did it right.  I don't have a normal life and never really did.  My younger sister went to college and lived in Colorado.  She loves sports and did a lot of the outdoors stuff.  She got a cozy job in sales.

My older sister also went to the same college.  She's just about to start her doctorate in nursing.  She's traveled a hella lot.  All over Europe and south America.

Lot's of guys focus on getting married and all that.  Better plan for eventualities.  Divorces happen.  Not saying it will but have a prenuptial and some money nobody knows about.  Hide it well!

FWIW you're seeing their highlights, you're not seeing the huge amounts of debt, and I would never describe a job in 'sales' as cozy - that's one cutthroat industry that  I know I could never be in and be happy in.
Just because those paths worked for them doesn't mean that they don't have issues, and it certainly doesn't mean that path would work for everyone.

It takes a personality to work in sales.

Both my mom and sister worked in sales.  Did very well too.  Sister doesn't make what mom did, but the product is a much lower value.

Trump made a fortune in sales.  That's real-estate at a high level tho.

Also weapon dealers make a fortune.  Hate to see what they spend on lawyers tho.

Not many people without college make big money.  Sales is one way.  But ya traveling and making deals would be hard.

I'd say a lot of people on this site are in more illegal sales.  A good product with some audience sells itself.

Well there's only one realistic way of affording a $1000+ per week oxy habit while working landscaping.

Kids, the world does not need more psychologists and literature "experts" to serve it coffee!

Go to trade school and get a job that pays $75 000+ a year!

My younger brother is just finishing a geomatics technician course and already got hired to go work at a huge iron mine on Baffin Island in the high Canadian arctic. Entry level pay is $80 000 on a two week rotation. He's 24 years old!

I dropped out in grade 10 and last year I made $77 000 for 7 months work. The rest was vacation!
Could have made $100 000 if I had worked the regular rotation!
Its not a fuckton of money but it can be and its way more than what my university friends make!

Work has taken me around the world and made friends everywhere.
I got a 10 bedroom home on 12 000 sq/ft lot in the burbs and savings in da bank.

Also got a cute girl who will go along anywhere with me. Wether for a family or sailboating to the carribean!

All this cause I hated highschool and learned a usefull skill set.

Work hard, be smart with your money and you can have anything you want.

If you really want to educate yourself, read a book, read wikipedia. Very cheap and you won't have to deal with retarded-leftist-libtard professors!

Learn a skill today, be a sick cunt tomorrow!

I like some of OP's points and all of them do make sense, if your final end goal is to acquire a lot of money. Sure if you plan or have kids, trying to set them up good for life is awesome but I you don't...

I'm not rich but I have enough money to survive and buy most things I like. But honestly stuff has never made me truly happy. It made me happy long enough to get from one purchase to the next and that's it. Sure you can probably get through life like that but that sounds like a miserable life IMO.

I don't know how one should live their life, as I'm doing it for the first time (as I can remember).
Life isn't as serious as people make it out to be, IMO. We all get it, you need money to survive, but beyond that it's all just speculation.
