Micropore tape better than filter discs?
    #23977417 - 01/02/17 09:47 PM (7 years, 28 days ago)

Mold spores are 1-100 microns, or 1,000-100,000 nm in size.
Bacteria are 0.1-10 microns, or 100-10,000 nm.

Hepa filters and filter discs have pores less than 0.3 micron, or 300 nm. Micropore tape has pores less than 2 nm.

So wouldn't micropore tape be better for keeping out bacteria than filter discs?

And does micropore tape allow as much gas exchange as filter discs?

alot use micropore tape on pftek jars so it must do some good but it doesnt out perform SFDs just on micron filtration alone, not all micropore tape or SFDs are created equal.

as long as you pat attention to your micron rating your good,  some use polyfill stuffed holes on everything and get away with it..  air quality and cleanliness have alot to do with it also.  sterile tek with prep etc..

I've used all kinds of filters. Tyvek, EZ felt, MP tape, polyfill and SFDs. They all work. The only filter I ever had fail was EZ felt that had been run many times. These days I only use SFDs and occasionally polyfill.
