No point arguing with him, he thinks the NSA is only recording data against "bad" people.

I'm pretty sure that they blatantly admitted to having everything on record and it became this big issue on whether or not that was 'ethical'. I'm pretty sure I'm not making that up..

Just believe you? That's absurd. You're just some anonymous dude on the internet.
I'd rather believe logic. Metadata is easy to store. It only takes a few bytes to store two phone numbers, date, time, and duration. To store the content of a phone call, however, takes a shitload more. Multiply both by tens of millions of calls a day, and the difference between the two becomes the difference between a huge data center in Utah and a new data center going online every day.
There's never been any evidence that the NSA or anyone else keeps recordings of the contents of every phone call. Snowden didn't claim that, even.
As to the claim that it's turned over to police departments, that's even more absurd. If it were, why is it that we aren't seeing that evidence pop up in criminal cases? I know literally hundreds of crim defense attorneys, and none of them have ever seen such evidence surface. Where is it?
This is solid nonsense that has zero basis in reality.

We'll see what Trump points the NSA at.
Anyone hear of a Trump pick for NSA director?

and "logic" before edward snowden was what? that the NSA didnt record anything, because it was too much info?

No. Before Snowden, we knew all of the metadata was recorded because I could subpoena a phone company for the data going back years. As I said, phone companies store the metadata, so the NSA having it isn't a big deal. There's no evidence that the NSA has the content of the calls.

I think it's more their real time capacity. A phone call made months or years ago is old intel. Their ability to intercept any communication anywhere in the world in real time is highly prized.
It's not just those pesky electronics. They could bug your favorite bar or meeting spot if you are the least bit a priority. So don't go messing around with ex-employees wives or daughters.

I don't think there is any dispute that the government has the technology to listen in on phone calls, bug a house, place hidden cameras, etc.
The idea that everything we say on a phone is listened to and/or recorded is absurd, though.

It's not evidence that can be delivered. It is a fact that people do not usually know a line is tapped. If you are in a buisness that can be compromised there is no safe conversation.
Unless you are in counter intelligence you are easy prey.

Of course people with tapped lines don't know they're being tapped. That has nothing to do with what we're talking about here, though.

What's it matter if they record every conversation?
It is that they can record any that they want. So can just about every sheriff department in the states. Sheriffs are also considered national security. It is a huge god damn web. Fishing thru all the info and making something of it is the real mess policy hasn't really dealt with.

A sheriff can't record conversations anytime they want. First they need a warrant. Even if they have a warrant, they need to use minimization procedures that prevent them from recording conversations that are outside of the scope of the warrant.
Again, that is completely different from the ridiculous idea that the NSA has recordings of every cellphone conversation that they can later mine for information.

I agree. But they can fly over anywhere and intercept everybody. I have seen miltary C130s with SIGNET mods. The NSA is far more military than justice.

As Enlil said, where the fuck would they store all this data? Whether or not they want to record every phone call and text, it's a logistical nightmare. Metadata files are small. I'm sure they have those.
Also, the source is TheAntiMedia.org (known propaganda site) and the author is Tyler Durder. This article has all the credibility of some random drunk on the street screaming at you.
