Do reusable canning lids really work?
    #23976318 - 01/02/17 02:11 PM (7 years, 28 days ago)

I saw posts related to this, but these questions weren't answered.

For PF, has anybody tried Tattler's reusable plastisol canning lids, as opposed to the Jarden's metal canning lids that come with most Ball and Kerr mason jars? Are they truly reusable? How many times? Do they really seal as well as the metal lids? Can they be drilled to make inoculation and GE holes like the metal lids?

You already have the right answers.

I use my lids until they get too rusty. 20 times is definitely possible if you treat them well.

I have all plastic lids and can't count how many times I've used them lol. They're great. The only thing I recommend is staying away from the cheap brands like basic essential, home essential or whatever. Buy Kerr or ball, I've bought a couple packs of the off brands when in a pinch and after a few uses they warp a little and become very tight. Very hard to screw off and on, and when working in an sab it's a real pain in the ass.

I'm on 3 years with my ball and Kerr plastic lids and they work like new, the only thing I use the metal lids for is taking a few rings and placing them in the bottom of the pc for the trivet to sit on while I pc pasty plates
