Hey everyone. Been awhile since I posted. I believe I would have put this in a "travel" subforum if there was an option but this will work as well.
I went to India last year for a yoga teacher training and another 1.5 months of travelling. I had high hopes that yoga would be the magic tool into a spiritual dimension. But aside from the fantastic physical results I began to see, it just didn't really do the trick. That being said, I pursued it almost daily for no longer than half a year, so maybe I just didn't put enough time in. Regardless, what I found in India that has since consistently brought me into a meditative and spiritual dimension was group music, specifically drum circles at the time. I grew up drumming and through high school I lost passion in it. I found it again in India in a hash clouded, art covered cafe in Rishikesh. People come from all over to these places out there and just trance out to rhythm - mostly drums and didgeridoos - for hours and hours every day. It's an amazing vibe.
Sadly by the time I realized what I had come across, it was about time to head home. Now, there are folks out there, from what I can tell, are on a search to the spiritual dimension through this tool of musical trance. Absolutely beautiful. I plan on beginning a Rhythm Quest sometime in 2017. My question to you guys is....
Have you ever been to India and found similar group music settings? If so, where? And for those of you who haven't been to India, have you found these settings in the USA or any other places worldwide?
I have been apart of alot of jams in the states, but there is always constant intermission and switching styles/genres etc. When you enter a jam which consists of mostly rhythm it just goes and goes and goes and goes, and morphs and builds and drops, and its just amazing sometimes. It's like entering into this group consciousness and when I have become tranced through music, you can almost feel everyone in the room riding on the same sonic wave. Anyways, its the most psychedelic thing I've ever experienced "sober."
If you have any thoughts on the matter outside of suggestions, I would love to hear.
Thanks for reading.
Peace and blessings.
