For those of who who are not familiar to real winters, the rivers freeze completely and you can drive your car across them. Therefore we can clear up areas of it and drill holes into the ice and fish.
During winter there are places where villages of a thousand or more people are living on the frozen river during the day and they go back home to sleep and come back the day after.
Essentially a frozen river is like an infinite deck...
Here's ours:

We're gonna bring a fireplace on there, maybe a patio table and a few chairs.
Happy fishing!

10 inches on top is frozen. More than enough to support a tractor. 4 inches is enough to walk. 8 inches is enough to drive on. 10 inches you can drive a truck. 12 inches you need to actively try to break it in order to fall through. More than that and you can drive a tank battalion across it

Heat goes up.
It'll melt maybe an inch though max.
EDIT: you bring a fireplace on 4 legs. Not camping style lol

my tractor weights 5 tons. I'd break through 10 inches

If you take the overly conservative government ice safety measures seriously, then yes you will fall through 10 inches with a 5 ton truck.
If you take reality, you're not even gonna crack the surface. The government is just protecting it's ass. Kinda like how chain links meant to support 100 pounds can easily support 250 in real life.

I used to go hella ice fishing. The biggest fish I ever caught was through the ice. It was in your homeland, Pat, a town called Bellville. I caught a gigantic walleye that I had mounted for display. People underrate ice fishing.

I caught the biggest catfish of my life last year. Fought with it for a good 20 minutes til it snapped my line. Got it back on another line a little later and dragged the monster to the shore line.
Id really like to icefish tho. Im in the northern michigan right now on a lake but unfortuantly its not cold enough
