Newbie looking for advice on colonizing rye berry jars

Hello, I am very new to this . So please let me know if im screwing this up. I purchased some jars already pced and ready to inoculate. I went ahead and inoculated 8 jars with golden teacher (6) and z strain (2). I then placed a seedling heating mat in bottom of a storage tub. On top of the mat i place a couple of square plastic containers to put the jars on so they arent directly on the heat mat. Then i put lid on tub and a towel covering it up. Does this sound good? I have been checking temps with my ir gun periodically and with the mat on a timer 1 hr on 1 hr off it seems to be keeping the jars at 77-80F . Any advice wpuld be appreciated. Thanks

Do not use a heating mat. It dries out the substrate and it raises the risk of contaminations. Making your own jars is very easy. What is the temperature in your room?

My advice There's so much wrong that you just need to start with reading something correct then come back if there's any new questions

Temp in tub 75f all jars about 75-78 on surface the room its sitting in is 70ish. I didnt know i was doing anything wrong. you really think they will get dried out sitting above mat 2in and in a tub? Huh And jars were so cheap it made more sense to just buy a few than buy pc.

Oh ya and thanks for the encouragement bodhi. I guess most "teks" out there just say put jars in a closet or something . I figured most these peoples closets must have a heat source in them to keep these jars 77-86f i see as a colonizing temp recommendation . I just figured it would be about the same thing the way i have it set up. A heater in a closet= a heater in a box. Apparently im wrong about that . Its only been about 24 hours since they have been in tube so what just take them out ? Or maybe mist tube or put water in it to evaporate?

Is there "so much wrong with that" because i bought jars pre done? If i put jars in closet with space heater will they dry out then? Sorry im just bummed didnt think a mat that heats 10f above room temp running 1 hr on 1 hr off would dry them out like that.

68-72f is fine. Dated info may say 77-80 that's been repeated by hacks for years. YouTube, Reddit, mycopia, erowid, etc... Follow information that has a trail of success like here on the forums where successful methods stick around and shit methods fall off the map until someone uses the search engine without skills and digs up 10 year old shit
Heating pads are a number one cause of noob failure if not the number one cause besides buying premade things
Jars go on a shelf. Definitely not in a tub and definitely no towel covering it.

Bodhisatta... how long does it take to see results at 70f? I started mine about 1am 1/1/17 and no signs at all yet. This normal?

If there's still nothing a week from now you can be worried :p
Gotta be patient in this hobby. Don't check your jars a million times a day, keep yourself occupied with other stuff and it'll grow in no time
