Question about liquid culture and cvg
    #23975454 - 01/02/17 09:16 AM (7 years, 28 days ago)

Ok so I just did my first cvg trays 3 days ago. I used liquid culture to rye grain jars then to cvg. My question is if cvg can be colonized in the open air and be contaminant resistant could one simply spray the cvg with liquid culture and skip the rye grain step?

Nope
You can try it though but it won't work well

No, it won't work.  Colonizing the grain first puts the colonized grain, which is fairly contamination resistant and in a state where it will rapidly take over the substrate in with the CVG ... so colonization happens fast.

With a liquid culture, colonization would be slow, meaning it would contaminate first and with no grain at all in the substrate the  yield would probably be minimal anyway if by some miracle it did colonize.

No. It wont work. The bulk of your nutrition comes from the grain.
