A filter is a filter?

This is more of a sanity check than a statement. I am using the following documents for reference points: Particle Size MERV 52.2
I am the type of person that likes to understand why something works vs just asking what works. When I go through the filter threads they seem to come down to personal preference backed up by anecdotal evidence. So, I looked around a little more and found that 1.) Tyvek and Micropore are, in practical application, the same. 2.) There is a reason why one swears by something while another swears against.
To filter Mold and Mold spores (3-30 microns) with >90% efficiency you need pores of 1.60 - 2.20 microns To filter Bacteria (0.3-60 microns) with >90% efficiency you need pores of 3 - 10 microns
As best I can tell Micropore tape is manufactured with a 2 - 20 micron range and Tyvek uses a 2 - 15 micron range. Why polyfill works baffles me a bit. The pore size is purely dependent on how tight you pack it. My best guess is it works well because it is super sticky and traps the particles easily as they bump into the fibers.
This puts us at why some people swear by or curse each. If you get an end product that was manufactured closer to the 2 micron end your experience will be a daisy. However, the inverse is possible as well.
This brings me to the 'A filter is a filter' point. I can see no practical filtering difference to use one over the other. Does this sound right?

Tyvek and micropore tapes don't age well, that alone could be a reason not to use them (depending how much you grow ofc)
SFD's are often rated at something like 0.3 microns, IMO if you look at your numbers(spore and bacteria size) it makes more sense to use that than anything else.

I completely concur. I do not think you will get much safer than a synthetic filter and an injection port. Most people grow on the cheap and these upgrades throw cheap and simple out the window. Relatively speaking of course
