Filtering hard/mineral filled H2O
    #23974322 - 01/01/17 09:49 PM (7 years, 29 days ago)

The well I'm on has really hard water, you can smell the sulfur but is clear to our eyes.

Do you guys recommend using a sediment filter for all my mycology work?

I use my hard water with 0% issues. In fact they benefit as long as the pH isn't too high.
You could try a Brita water filter or similar products to filter the water.

Wormfood...

I would suggest in buying at your local water dealer some bulk water or find a stream and get some water that doesn't contain sulfur.

But It doesn't hurt to experiment with your tap water and make your own judgment...

I'm very curious the area you live in...
I know of sulfur in well water in the area around Port San Luis... Or a little north of San Francisco...

Sulfur is used in amino acid containing proteins, mycelium actually need it.

Whidbey island! Hour outside of Seattle. This whole island has horrible water, ours smells so bad and since I don't own the place I don't want to get an expensive well filter, one day!

I'll do some experiments and let you guys know. So far my microgreens don't mind the water

@Ferather - what level of ph do you consider too high?

Woops sorry I just noticed the question, pH 7 is pretty much the max for mycelium.
6.0 - 6.5 is the best bet if you want more flushes without adjusting pH.
