Heyowana said: Blue mountains and Oberon look in valleys that face south. Check around ferns and blackberry vines as you walk down the valley. Checking where water has ran over sticks and wood. They won't be out in the open yet. When Autumn progresses the sun is less intense so P.subaeruginosa is easier to find out in the sunlight.
They will be around now. Just not so obvious as later on. Thousand meters and up they are around late February in the Blue mountains after good rain.
Thanks for the tips man!
Love your P.papuana and P.tasmaniana pics, do you think my profile pic is P.papuana? Found that one deep in the pine forest and always thought it was special/cool looking, like a wizards hat

harrymanback133 said: Hi lads, Been a few years since I've been out foraging but I'm feeling the itch and am keen to get back into it this season.
With all this rain and low(ish) temps the itch is strong, what do you think my chances are of finding some P. sub up in the mountains (blue) this weekend? I've found some out that way before - albeit in June - I know I'm way early for the P. sub season, but the weather feels like its getting there, and looking at the weather reports theres been a few cold nights (even one down to 9 deg).
Only way to know is to get out there I know, just wondering if anyone has had success early this year.
Was also thinking about hitting up pine forests a bit closer to home in the souther highlands area, starts with p and ends in enrose
Pics from my last find a few years ago --- GET KEEN!!!!

Bloody teaser!!!! Soooo Keeeeen as Mr bean! -------- How this! My dad said he saw some "Gold tops" in western Sydney... So I informed him they could not be the general ones; being P.Cubensis. So he said they were growing out of woodchips... Which got me very excited... But... it has not dropped under 12c yet.. So I showed him last years pix.. N he rekons they are very simular.
I may check out this location ASAP!

So I went for a search in a paddock today while still raining, I think this is a modest haul.

I am new to this so if someone could help me with identification, I am sure these are pans, although many of them were identical in every way, shape, size, colour, even growing out of the same cow dungs side by side, but one thing their stem was lighter and showing little to no bruising when pinched, here are a couple of pics you can see the one in each where the stem is light.

Are they still pans just with less psilocybe or something else altogether?

Never mind they did bruise, they just needed more damage and more time to blue up.

Ive had pans take up to 20mins to turn blue. As i pick i squeeze the middle of the stem and bag. Then i dbl check each stem when im done. Ive found pans active and non active growing from the same pat.

No, I think that's just a P. cyanescens with an unusually large and open cap.
Nice finds!

Do you guys take every shroom you find, no matter what condition. I found alot of older ones wiltered today (from this excessive rain). I left them however some where still in shape. The stalks where black and brown and hard though, these still ok? Should be able to see what i mean in this picture. Do you guys wash before drying? Or just rip off the bottom stem bot that meets the ground?

So much rain up here in northern NSW. Newbie here thought i'd go on a little hunt (have been once before and found some pan cyans). I found some tiny ones today, how long should i leave it to go back and get them (ie when they're likely fully grown). Its still very humid and showers of rain on occasion. Any advice would be great.

They can welter asquickly as they pop up. Ive gone back thinking 3 days is perfect then when i arrive at spot they have been sloppy. Heavy rain will trash them i think and also the grounds becoming very boggy preventing new growth. Example is i picked one area friday. Went back today and there was new growth, older growth id left and dead ones. Keep searching the area where there are small ones are. Some bigger ones may be lurking in the taller grass less visable. Ive been told life cycle is about 4/7 days. With the weather perfect they seem to pop up grow and stop at a certain size due to conditions changing. Good luck and keep us posted

OK will probably get a chance on Friday to look again. There were so many different types of mushrooms around. I'm sure there were some species which may have been active. I'm assuming the best way to quickly ID actives in the field is to pinch and look for the colour change? Certainly a lot with gold/brown tops on them. Pan Cyans are the only ones i can ID easily at present. Anyway hopefully back with some nice pics soon.

I had been washing all the poo off each mushroom individually before placing on drying rack, although with the mother load I collected yesterday it was quite a chore, literally took hours to do -.- next time i will just break them off at the stems rather than pulling the whole thing out cleaning off all the cow turd was so labourous.
