questions & photos: monotub & agar

So I've got 3 strains in various stages of isolation on MEA in petri dishes, and I've got a fully colonized monotub in its first flush, but I'm still having some troubles;
firstly, my monotub seems to only have fruited around the edges:

These are Oriza India.
are there any common reasons for this? I was hoping for more of a forest of mushrooms. The issue with this tub was that it took two weeks from colonization to pinning. I think I slowed it down by not giving it enough FAE at the beginning. Is it possible that the middle didn't pin because of that?
secondly; After 4 transfers, this was one of my nicest plates. I put it in the fridge two weeks ago and now it has this thing on it. what's the deal with this thing? Is this contamination, or is this a desperate mushroom?

thirdly; I'm trying to culture these syzygy spores from FSRE. I put a crapload of spores on the agar and nothing much happened for a week, but eventually I got this:

Is this even mycelium? Can I make it nicer with transfers? Very weird morphology.
And here's a neat, clean oriza India plate just for fun:

On the first question. Are uou spraying with water? Standing water or heavy spray can inhibit pinning. Maybe you hit the middle hard.

I was spraying with water. I was using a mist, but there were certainly some droplets on the mycelium when I was done misting it.

I want to say that when You get pinning on the side rather then The whole surface, it's due to a poor surface conditions.
You should take a picture from the top with the lid off. You won't hurt nothing at this point taking the lid off for a picture.

obviously I've already harvested some:

PS: Never let it be said that Orissa India does not give HUGE FROOTS

...any ideas on those weird looking syzygy plates?

Those are some monster fruits, a nice characteristic of oriza
Your tub looks a little dry on top though
and Idk what that is on your petri, i'd say a contam.

Do you mean the odd-looking syzygy plates or the oriza plate with the brown thing on it?

Plates inoculated from spores can look a bit off sometimes, but I find they often shape up on future plates. Give it a transfer or two and see if it takes a more typical cube mycelium appearance. My guess is that it will be fine after transfer. You could keep the original plate around for a while and see if it develops into something other than what you want it to be.

OK I'll ditch the plate with the brown thing. I've got plenty of other OI plates ready for inoculation.

Sweet. I'm really looking forward to trying out the syzygy. I've heard that Oriza give a heavy body load for their potency, but syzygy is supposed to be very strong afaik. I'll do some more transfers on that weird looking syzygy mycelium. I'm just surprised it's not centrosymmetric. My oriza mycelium was pretty circular even on the first inoculation.
I'm also trying to culture some albino A+, but no luck there so far.
