any of those mountaineering docs of the highest and most difficult summits have always fascinated me
It's amazing that Everest is actually considered "easy" compared to some of those other peaks, even though it's the tallest
But easy is relative though
It's still an incredibly difficult challenge that has been the cause of many, many deaths
Annapurna is one of the world's deadliest mountains
I'm pretty sure for every 4 who try to climb it, 1 will not survive

That's one vicious looking peak
Per wiki:
In October 2014, at least 43 people were killed, and some 175 injured, as a result of snowstorms and avalanches on and around Annapurna, including trekkers from Nepal, Israel, Canada, India, Slovakia and Poland. Between 10 and 50 people were thought likely to be missing. It was believed that about 100 trekkers had left a guest house at 4,800 metres (15,700 ft), to climb to the top of Thorong La pass and then descend.
The authorities were criticised for not giving sufficient warning of the approaching bad weather. By 18 October, some 289 people were reported as having been rescued. An official from the Nepal Ministry of Tourism said on 18 October that helicopters were looking for survivors and bodies in snowy areas at up to 5,790 metres (19,000 ft), and were trying to reach 22 hikers stranded at Thorong La. The incident was said to be Nepal's worst-ever trekking disaster.
Annapurna I has the greatest fatality rate of all the 14 eight-thousanders: as of March 2012, there have been 52 deaths during ascents, 191 successful ascents, and nine deaths upon descent, which means that "for every three thrill-seekers that make it safely up and down Annapurna I, one dies trying." The ratio of 34 deaths per 100 safe returns on Annapurna I is followed by 29 for K2 and 21 for Nanga Parbat. Climbers killed on the peak include Britons Ian Clough in 1970 and Alex MacIntyre in 1982, Frenchman Pierre Béghin in 1992, Russian Kazakh Anatoli Boukreev in 1997, Spaniard Iñaki Ochoa in 2008, and Korean Park Young-seok, lost in 2011.

To put it into perspective just how extremely difficult Annapurna is to summit -- just take a look at how many people have successfully conquered Everest.
Over 4,000 have successfully climbed Everest.
Annapurna? Just 191. That's it. Not even 200 successfully (documented) summits of Annapurna.

Well I'm sure that definitely factors in, but that death rate though. Highest fatality rate among every peak on earth like Mr. Johnson said.
Mount Everest: 1.3%
Annapurna: 41%
That's a staggering differential

I just woke up again, had this super weird dream, apparently I was framed for some sort of crime and one of the antagonists gave me the keys to some sort of sports car then took them away from me, the rest of dream consisted of me plotting a way to steal them back
Anyways I just burned a bowl of herbs, now gonna smoke a cig and get ready to head out for an 11-hour shift

If you want to fight the environmentally queued cravings, pick yourself up some CBD and start taking that, don't get anything other than the pure stuff so you know how much you like to dose and what not. They will reduce cravings for opiates, it's an allosteric modulator for two different opioid receptors, mu and another. CBD effect of curtailing reward effect from opiates is also likely mediated by it's agonistic effect on the 5ht1aR as well https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4444130/
take some CBD and see how it helps you, it's very worth a shot

I mountaineering documentaries. have you guys seen 'touching the void' ? there's another one as well that details a pair's journey on one of the andes mountain peaks i believe, one made it down safely while the other one had his rope cut (they were attatched) by his partner and fell almost to his death into a crevace - and crawled his way down off the mountain to safety. absolutely insane.

Was good. I'm on a 24 hour shift today, not going to be able to party for New Years or anything. Oh well. Chillin though.
Got a beer making kit for Christmas. It's nice and glass too. Think I'll start a brew up tomorrow. Never brewed my own drinks before.
