Really excited about seeing mycelium

I inoculated my first jars a couple days ago, and today I noticed the mycelium specks. Can't wait for the new year.

Thank you all for the guides and posts

Is that perlite in the second jar with no foil?

We will know soon enough.
Looks like some germination in first jar though. Low res. photo makes it difficult.
I'm thinking he used perlite and verm as a dry barrier?

I used mixed perlite and verm for the casing layer. Maybe I should dip my finger in to check if it's actually mycelium

Keep your finger out of the jars bro. Take a closer pic with brighter light and we will tell you.

I am just joking
Here is a closeup

I simply used PF Tek with very fine verm and pressure cooked the jars for 60 mins. For some reason cakes shrunk a bit and caused some of the casing to spill over the sides but I am not expecting it to be a problem.

I see some germination, but what is the white stuff on top?
edit: I'm a dum-dum. Why'd you use perlite in the dry layer?

It does not look like proper PF TEK. Take a look at this. You should use lids... I have seen another guy with a similar 'PF TEK' grow log. Could you post the link of the PF TEK you read? It seems there is a bad source for PF tek online somewhere.

I don't really see anything different from my setup except for the perlite on the dry layer. It' s only there because I ran out of verm
edit: Just saw your edit. I left it without a lid to see if the extra air exchange would have any effects. It's the only open jar

Looks like a start to me I would try using Vermiculite next time though, Keep away from them as not to contaminate them.
Good luck, ill be crossing my fingers for you.

The tek on fungifun.org forgoes lids, they use drinking glasses with two layers of aluminium foil.
http://www.fungifun.org/English/Pftek
As for colonising without any kind of cover for the substrate, it will probably contaminate 100% of the time.
