yup. The verm should be coated in water, not the BRF. It actually mixes better when u do verm then water then BRF.

When the verm is mixed with water first, it prevents gooey chunks from forming out of the flour and water.

Heres the fan...

And the black sheep...literally.... This was one of my two non starters...I had some hope for this one as I saw a little white fuzz sprouting. Then this morning a whole new dimension unlike the others. I think its done for.

How come some colonies have a very defined edge like the ones in the jars on either side, but the one in the middle has fronds or fingers?

to be honest the others look bacterial..even for cakes. the one with the 'fronds/fingers' is rhizomorphic growth and is looking good. dont give up on the others tho. but that 1 jar is a toss.

Yeah, blackie will be going bye bye...
However...The others change all the time...some days branching, others dense edges. All the growth lines up with inoculation points, except black...that one is right at the DVL.
It probably has to do with the temperatures in here. I have the room set to 16c, but the thermometer on the table can read as low as 10c sometimes.
Everyone sprouted at around the same time with similar looks, the one that is no good just showed signs of life a couple days ago...then today I saw it was less than kosher.

I just worry about the variables I've outlined on this thread. Mostly the diy brf and the syringe. I expected a black floaty syringe like what you get when you buy from vendors.
Ive done DIY BRF. I didint like the consistency. Stone groumd works way better.
It just might take longer if the jars are too wet it slows growth. Just wait till the jars dry out a bit from Fresh Air Exchange out the needle holes.

Wow those things bruise EASY....
One of the cakes started pinning in the jar even though only 98% colonised. I decided to proceed with this one. that jar may have LOOKED straight sided...but it was not. Cake was stuck half way. After some wiggling and shaking....a breaking off a small chunk...I decided to sacrifice the jar for the greater good.
Smelled mushroomy and maybe a little flowery? Kinda nice actually. Cake was firm enough to grip and try and pull out of the jar. The little babies blued instantly from the abuse.
I decided to dump the SGFC due to climate in my area. I'm going with the in vitro pod tek and bottom watering. I also put the small chunk in its own world since it fell in the trash can.
We're a few days short of 2 months.

Alright...
Sample photos of progress around here....
This was the first flush of one jar (the happiest jar) about 20g wet

This was the muto-jar's first offspring....

This is the 1.5-2 flush of the happy jar....

This is the current status of muto-jar....

I've got more jars coming up...Im pretty sure everyone is or will be contaminated with mycogone...but they're individually podded so....
Mycogone, will fruits still grow with the fuzzies? Everything ok once they dry out? Anyway to fight this fuzzy oozy monster?
