Oysters in 1 gallon plastic water bottles

Going to start growing the oyster is these 1 gallon plastic water bottles my wife's been collecting. She ain't recycling any more she says. Question is how much spawn do we need to add to the wheat straw??? I read to little and mildew or other stuff will start growing so it would help lots if we knew how much spawn we need to add. Yes we are beginners stepping out from growing in those little boxes.

I add a quart jar (about a pound maybe) of grain spawn per five gallon bucket of straw. Seems to work. So for your jugs, 2 cups of spawn? You could probably get away with one cup.

Thanks alot for the reply. We have plenty plastic bottles and spawn is sold 5 pounds so we're gonna get at it. I should have never got wife started on those small box's. She loves those things! The straw is still sitting in the back seat of my car and coming inside now. Looked at some bags and those things are expensive! Maybe buy after seeing how these bottles work out. Is there a place to buy spawn at a low price? We got ours at $45

Take some of your spawn and expand it to more grain. Read up on g2g. You'll be able to make more spawn than you can use. I just switched from buckets to bags for straw logs and yes they can be a little expensive if you aren't going to order a lot.

20 pounds of fresh Oyster spawn can easily inoculate 100 pounds of dry wheat straw. Thats like 300 pounds of wet substrate. That is the standard I use for my oysters and get 100% BE without watering.

I'm trying to find the link to expand the spawn but can't can you attach? Yes I see the difference in buying 100 bags to 1000 bag cost. That bail of wheat straw was a PITA getting out of the car. Why does my wife get so excited growing mushrooms? I like them yes but sh

If you already know how to prep grain: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/1348626 If not, then look up a Tek for prepping rains. I use wild bird seed. I've used Milo and lots use rye. Here is a WBS Tek. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17252080/fpart/all/vc/1

How do you get 100% BE with 66% water content and no watering? 100% BE is full dry weight as 10% of the total yield.

My spawn will be arriving next week. Do I need clean the plastic bottles? We have the big pot to cook the wheat straw and not have the room ready. Once the spawn and straw's in the plastic bottles do I need water them? We spray the little boxes in the plastic bag. I'm really just a beginner so I know I'm asking alot. Water and light?
