Colonizing logs verses fruiting logs
    #23962545 - 12/28/16 11:36 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Im having a hard time deducing if oyster straw logs are colonized in the same space they are fruited...I understand that the GE/pinning holes are one in the same, but do these logs colonize and fruit seamlessly in the fruiting chamber?

Hi sve,

Quote:

Pleurotus ostreatus
Spawn Run:

    * Incubation Temperature: 75* F (24* C)
    * Relative Humidity: 85-95%
    * Duration: 12-21 days
    * CO2: 5000-20,000 ppm
    * Fresh Air Exchanges: 1 per hour

    * Light Requirements: n/a

Primordia Formation:

    * Initiation Temperature: 50-60* F (10-15.6* C)
    * Relative Humidity: 95-100%
    * Duration: 3-5 days
    * CO2: <1000 ppm
    * Fresh Air Exchanges: 4-8 per hour
    * Light Requirements: 100-1500 lux

Fruitbody Development:

    * Temperature: 60-70* F (10-21* C)
    * Relative Humidity: 85-90%
    * Duration: 4-7 days
    * CO2: <1000 ppm
    * Fresh Air Exchanges: 4-8 per hour

    * Light Requirements: 1000-1500 lux

Cropping Cycle:
3-4 crops, 7-14 days apart, over 45-55 days.

As you can see normal colonization takes place at higher co2 ppm's and less air exchange. A small hole in your jar lid with filter disk meets these requirements well. It is only when you initiate pinning and go into fruiting that you want to increase your FAE.

I want to say that table is from "Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms" By Paul Stamets, perhaps someone else can say for sure.
