Sorry to hear it bud, I have the same problem with kratom, I even had one plant for almost 3 years, they are suppose to be easy but something always goes wrong, usually lack of water but the oldest plant succumbed to disease

Hey guys, so I have about 4 small cuttings that finally took root after nearly 6 months of waiting. One of them I recently acclimated to outdoors. I had it in a grow tub that was kept at high humidity before and around 78F. Now that it's outdoors I have it in almost entirely indirect light, I'm gonna move to a spot soon to start with about an hr of morning light and then slowly move it away from that wall. It's been pretty hot outside lately though, way hotter than the grow tub was. Should I be watering it more often? I was thinking maybe a light watering every other day?

Good job on the rooting!
Cuttings I received in the mail a while ago, even with a super quick transit time of a day or so came out a bit mangled and never recovered from that..
But I have two seedlings now, let's hope this goes right!

I killed 3 of my khats not completely on purpose but i moved to a new house and have no room for them. So i put them outside in the current British heat wave and 3 out of 4 fried because i was very preoccupied with sorting the house. The last one Ive nursed back to health and im watering it daily.

I have allways thought Khat was a desert plant and thus liked hot and dry conditions. However, when asked around here i have understood Khat plants do need to be watered quite frequently and is not the dry loving plants i thought. Your plan with a light watering every other day seems to be a good starting point but if you see they seem very dry you probably can increase that a bit, especially as it´s quite hot and dry now. All adjusted depending on weather and temps of cause.

I was gonna say the same Mateo, but I thought as well that khat really shouldn't be given too much water (which is puzzling given how you are supposed to root cuttings but I guess that is not the same).
For seedlings of many types of plants, more water does generally seem to be preferable it seems.. I keep my seedlings in a propagator which prevents too much evaporation. But thanks for substantiating my suspicion to not keep it overly dry especially in infancy..
I trust that for many of my plants, the heat is unusual and welcome even if it does mean keeping a close eye on water.

C. edulis is drought tolerant. Nonetheless, this plant is causing the groundwater levels to drop in some of its native regions (e.g. Yemen). This is what the Yemeni Khat grower said in the video below: "Khat uses up a lot of water. You have to irrigate every week or 10 days, otherwise it does not grow"

Is that a fact? I thought that was just one of the excuses they used to ban it.

Maybe it's also partly due to the way they cultivate the plant over there. You want the fresh new growth for chewing, so the plants are likely pruned (harvested) a lot and watered frequently to get succulent new growth.
Like I said a year ago, the plant is drought tolerant and mine survive a week or two without watering in full summer heat. But I do use a wood chips mulching layer, so that helps to keep evaporation from the soil down as well. But the new growth is fairly tough and wouldn't be very appropriate for chewing I think.

Is that just one plant with suckers? It looks half dead.
Do seedlings need a humidity dome? I removed the cover from my plant and within a day the seedling is limp so I put it back on. I read someone on this board saying khat seedlings don't need humidity dome at all, are they wrong, or do they go limp and than recover?
