What they wont tell you is that sports perpetuates violence in a way the bigger faster guy picking on the weaker guy. No one gives a shit because they're men or whatever. If you go down to those games the players are always saying some real nasty shit to each other too. Most of our most popular players are cheaters or convicts. I'm not sure if this is so wide spread in other countries, but once most people get money and fame they become huge assholes and it trickles down to even high school.
That said the people that can't cut it in sports are usually 10x worse.... and they're the ones updating their status and wearing the jerseys acting like they'd go all out for it when in reality they're butthole surfers

The only thing that would make that funnier is if that were Cutler.

I like individual sports, not team sports. I will watch some NFL playoff games, but that's about it.
I prefer watching tennis and pool billiards.

Hi, niffla. I got into NFL in the past couple years, but I don't think I fall into the category of "fucking stupid" that you're talking about. I never get emotional about a loss, it doesn't effect me at all. In fact, my fiancée & friends sometimes laugh at me because I commonly root for both teams (when it's not a redskins game- when it is, I only cheer them). I also hope the home team wins a lot, because I look at the stadium full of fans and think how great it would be if all those people were made happy. And I always hope all the players stay safe & have a good time. I don't get into all the stats & trivia, I just enjoy the action of the games. Idk, maybe I'm not what you'd consider a real sports fan, but I do love football Sundays any more.

I don't know, man. Good question. I think a lot of people are born into it (or around it).
I know this one dude though, dude I grew up with who I used to be real good friends with (we're more acquaintances now) -- his entire identity & life is University of Alabama football. He never attended the university. Shit I don't think he's ever even lived in Alabama. But it's his entire life, man. It consumes him. And their football program has been utterly dominant in recent memory, so whenever they do lose (which is rare), the guy takes it as hard as if he lost a loved one. For real. And he looks down on fans of other teams as if they're completely inferior beings -- you can just see it in his face and by what he says that anybody else is basically a peasant in his eyes
Dude wanted to fight me once because I called him a bandwagon fan (meaning a fan who becomes a fan when the team is really good).
He revolves everything in his life around the games. Everything. He literally quit a job once because he would've had to work during the games. The top priority in his life by leaps and bounds are the games -- like I swear to God this guy would seriously consider skipping a family member's funeral if there was a big Alabama game on at the same time.
All over a game and a team that he has zero association with other than him waking up one day and declaring himself an Alabama football fan
Jesus fuck. What kind of life is that? That's horrible, I feel so bad for him.

Hey Burke, I think that's great, man. For real. More power to ya for being able to just enjoy it for what it is...entertainment. And not taking it too seriously.
Look there's absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying sports at all -- it's only when fans (such as myself for pretty much my whole life, really this whole thread is a subtle indictment on myself more than anything) take it too seriously. That's when it becomes "fucking stupid". Like I dwell on losses...lol. I mean how stupid is that. When the teams I root for lose, particularly what I perceive to be "big" games, I dwell on the shit. Like it depresses me. A game. A game that I have no control over. It's just some shit I watch on TV. On my fucking couch. It's really the most mind boggling shit ever when I really think about how much emotion I've completely wasted on being pissed off or just straight up fucking depressed because "my team" lost.
That's what I mean by stupid. It's so pointless and meaningless, and I know it, yet somewhere along the line I developed some sort of emotional attachment to this shit, and still allow myself to be affected by it. Shit is fucking weird.

I hate it when people say 'we' when they talk about a sport team. WE won last night ,we made it to the play offs.
Are you on the roster? No? Then shut the fuck up. You did nothing to help. I get franchises like the word we, but I when you brag about how we converted on more 3rd downs to win the game it's a bit stupid.
Sure buying team swag and tickets technically makes you part of the organization since your money directly funds new players, but that doesn't give you the right.
It's kind of like the new nfl clothing commercials. They have some nfl star talking about all the hard work they did to earn a jersey, then some grandma says she just bought the same one on nfl shop.
Fuck I dunno man.

It all boils down to entertainment. I love sports, football in particular more then most people. When your at the games you can have an effect of the outcome, well the crowd does. You can contribute to a teams win. People get into that. Plus it's like a huge party beer tailgating food. Some people get into spa operas others get into sports. There's nothing wrong with supporting a team. Sports have been around for ever and people have always been into it. I sometimes yel get upset angry about things that happen during the game but after the game I never let it spiral me into a depression.
It's an exciting game particularly when your team is playing. I know it seems like there's a lot of people on here that aren't into it and that's fine. But there are much much more people that are into some a sport one way or another. There's a lot more going on in sports then the actual game itself. I loved watching my college team overachieve this year and watch them climb the polls. Sports are here to stay. Looking down on someone for rooting for a sports team makes you look like a douche. If you don't like it don't watch simply as that. People grow up playing these sports and when they are no longer able to they root for the teams they like.
If you don't like sports better just get out of the way because millions of people love it, billions worldwide. You can have your opinion of people who follow sports but more often then not your usually looked down upon for not liking sports more so the people who look down on those for liking sports. Just the way it is, many sports games are more exciting then anything else on tv and it's not even close. Some games are boring but when you have so many media outlets covering a game or a certain sports or just sports in general it just goes to show you how popular it is.
Another thing and I know it's wrong and shouldn't think this was but for a lot of people if you don't like sports your viewed in a different way. Some of its neutral but a lot of its bad.
It's a great adrenaline rush watching your team at the stadium and rooting them on especially when crowd noise is causing a visiting team a lot of problems. And on the flip side the comradory at away games between your teams fans is outstanding especially when your team is winning or pulling an upset.
Sports it's here. It's huge. Deal with it because it's not going away.

And...
Thank you! I absolutely despise pro sports. I always have and I always will. Mr.Chomsky expressed exactly how I feel about them. He is my new mentor on this subject. I was always into music and art since I can remember. It is absolutely ludicrous how we put these mongrel/violent/asshole/criminal thugs on such a pedestal because they are superior physically, and then PAY them exorbitant amounts of money! GODDAMN IT it pisses me off! They are enhanced by HGH and other drugs anyway. I am sickened beyond words at the disgusting display of horror that is pro sports.
