I use oak (Q. pubescens and Q. fraineto), beech and poplar sawdust, also from mills in my area. I make sawdust spawn for oysters and I have seen that it takes them longer time to colonize oak sawdust than beech or poplar. Also the mycelium is not as thick and it takes a long time before poor fruiting.

This mutant shiitake I found cute for the thread

Decided to try composting spent substrates and made this small pile 10 days ago. Started raising temperature and reduced volume by half already! Surprisingly I managed to recover almost 2 kilos of clean mushrooms, oysters, kings and nameko.

Thread revival

I'm thinking it was way too humid in the GH, my first time using one for oysters. Cloned this from the wild in KY during December, I think this is Pleurotus ostreatus.not sure though. they seem to like my mini mono lol. This is lime pasteurized straw and and 8 or 9 qrts of oat spawn.

Yeah worked like a charm. I even taped the back holes up with a lot of micropore tape and the clusters just pushed on through.

Thanks man, they tasted awesome. I cut off the caps and dehydrated the stems for capsules. Oysters seem to be quite nutritious with all the antioxidants and protein.

For sure. About 4 days before harvest, I unzipped both sides of the greenhouse all the way to half the height. Seems I was a bit too late:sad:
