straw buckets do really well. If the jars won't break up you can use a spoon to gently get the spawn out

I like the idea of straw buckets, just don't know how I could prepare 5 gallons of straw. Is it too risky to just dump boiling water into a bucket of straw and let it sit for a few hours?

Take a look at the hydrated lime method, or if you are patient, the cold fermentation. You could also use bleach or soap to clean the straw. If you want to go really ghetto, just use those jars to inoculate one or two buckets and then incubate outside on low temps. Oysters are aggressive.

I agree with everyone else, if you are going to use it as spawn, it will need to be a low risk substrate. No doubt it will take a while to get all the spawn out, with a high chance of aerial infection.
Next time try spawn bags, with filters. It's much easier to breakup the spawn.

I think the biggest difference is that mine were mature and leafy, Dabadoodledoo710's looks young and dense.

Have any of you tried maitake before it fans out? I saw a Paul Stamets video where he called it maitake brains. This thread is making me hungry for mushrooms!

I know this is a pitiful specimen, but for me it's an achievement in growing my first oyster mushroom from store clone.

sweet! how come they're so thick compared to the thin bracket shape you normally see in nature?

Their turkey tail were harvested before full development. At first stages turkey tail grow thick, but eventually it flattens and shows fanlike shape, at least that was my experience the times I grew it.

Nice! Looks like they could use a tad more FAE- you'll get a little better yeild and less of that white blob you see at the bottom. Keep up the good work mate! I love TurkeyTail- I take double extractions of it daily. And its such a fast colonized!
The one singular Ganoderma sessile is from Crowley TX a person on an FB page brought to me, the big batch were all found on one stump and its root system- right outside the window from where my farm used to be. I did about 100 bags of 6 different species, but never sessile- this wild strain beat the odds and took over before any of the others could. Cloning both now.
