I have canine teeth and enzymes that decay meat based materials, this tells me I eat meat as well as vegetables. Regardless, fungi fruits are a great alternative for animal proteins and other similar materials.
I've also seen supermarket own brand, myco-mince, in replacement of beef mince.

I don't see a lot of interest in schizzophyllum around here. could you enlighten me on why you grow them despite their horrible smell?

I grow it for passion. Cloned it from the wild and isolated. Every species has it's beauty.
The smell was bad the first year I grew it. I think the reason on the smell could be some bacteria associated with this species. On agar and grain it looked like pure clean culture, but when transfered to sawdust+chips it developed a slimy orange liquid similar to oyster metabolites, but with a denser consistency. The liquid was irregular distributed along all bag, but specially on upper areas. Grain smelled very fresh and appealing (not that descomposition smell it had the year before). When I grew it on sawdust bags I tried to smell it through the filter patch and it started smelling like a fart but ended smelling not that bad, with few but appealing odor (but not like your own fart ).

what we do for the love of fungi. smelling farts through filters! I've grown it a couple of times and could never get rid of the smell. they are indeed good looking mushrooms. I've heard they've been trying to grow them in Africa as a food source for locals. apparently they're nutritional.

Say what now?? Cool!
Did you know it can colonize and fruit off of immuno-compromised humans?

 My first yellow oyster fruits.
Fragrant. Different smell than pinks for sure.
This culture was very aggressive, literally one day after the bottom colonized all of the jars pinned in vitro.
I destroyed one getting it out, gave one away to a friend whose favorite color is yellow, was happy to make her day and here's the other one. Got a bag ready for GH

Nice grows, friend. A fun fact about S. commune. The same researchers Okamura et al. who informed my pearl oyster mead also found that S. commune makes lactate dehydrogenase and a milk-clotting enzyme for cheese.
This may be an interesting use for you to explore. Anyone can PM me for the full text as always.
Schizo Commune is a good band name.
