No its erinaceus, it's just not getting past the fast growing stage and producing long spines yet.
I'll post it again in a couple days it's adding about an inch diameter every night right now. My previous biggest was softball sized, so I'm noobishly excited. This is my first lions mane grow with over a gallon of substrate. I've got more lions mane tubs and experiments in the pipe though.

doesn't really look like erinaceus. could be a different climate though that makes it look like that. I'm not an expert.

More wild shaggy mane! 2 in that pic

Gonna take them both home today, I may have butchered my last wild comatus clone. I didn't anticipate it to dissolve itself into black goop rather than being held captive. I kinda respect that tho.
The smaller one in the back is gonna be an appetizer. Never tasted shaggy mane. I'm guessing a light sautee in oil just to taste the flavor.
Probably a 75' circle around this Grove of trees and shaggy mane and shaggy parasols pop up here all the time lately.
I do believe I just gained a level in mycology

I know it looks pretty much like the wild h. coralloides but all my attempts to clone that were overcome by pale yellow snot contam. I'm a single hericium man at the moment.
I am in the middle of figuring out how to use my new grow shelf. I still don't have it dialed in.. waiting on some fans to replace the old one that burned out.
Edit:
Looks slightly less weird with better lighting.

looks indeed less weird. I give it 15-18°C and humidity around 75-80%. good luck dialing it in.

So it didn't get normal, but I'm going to cook it tonight anyway.
My growing area is not automated and I need to go away for a few days.
Edit:
They get a bit tough at that size , 1lb 5 1/4oz, I'd cut it up way smaller next time.

Tried a coir casing on a jar of KO I am top fruiting. knots are forming. Looks like it works pretty well.

I think this is the 6th flush on this KO jar I started forever ago.
