I got some king oyster spawn that I'm going to dump into the folds of a hydrated bundle of newspapers. Cause I have 126368 bundles of paper.  Might as well try to use them.

You could always shred them up real good, and hydrate it, load into jars, pasteurize spawn rock and roll. :super:

Oh man you underestimate how many newspapers I have.  My guess is I have about 8000 in the garage and another 6 to 8000 in the basement.

The idea is too just knock them up and leave them around the property. It's basically a newspaper block.

Yeah man I'm gonna do it with multiple edibles and a couple active woodlovers.

Doing it with kings inside first too see if this is even viable  I could just be throwing shit tons of paper on my property for no reason.

My first grow was 24kg of waste paper, mail, newspaper so on. I get better BE from 600g of WL-Tek.
It's worth investigating nutrient additives when you are happy with using plain paper.

The images in my WL-Tek guide is King oyster, "grow-up" spawn style.

Here is the public Oysters on Kitty Litter guide.

The idea is to recycle the paper. That's why I'm doing it that way. I'm going to do a full run on flat shredded paper with a splash of verm and gypsum.

I think you misunderstood, I wasn't asking you to change to pellets. The pellets are recycled newspaper, egg carton, so on.
My suggestion was to use it like wood, and enrich it which whatever you like, newspaper is not very nutritional.

Newspaper, shredded has a carbon to nitrogen ratio of 175:1, whereas mycelium do better at around 25:1.
Even enrichment from wheat bran, will change the carbon-nitrogen ratio, and increase total BE.

----

Here is T-Gel agar, and T-Gel agar with added MG, which is more populated and has better BE.

----

Here is newspaper, and newspaper with added macro-micro nutrients.

----

MG = Miracle-Gro soluble nutrients.

Here is a quick guide to enriching wood and wood based products. Intended to help you decide how much to add.

----

Rough carbon to nitrogen guide:

Paper products: Contain about 42% carbon, 0.24% nitrogen, this is a carbon to nitrogen ratio of 175:1 (42 / 0.24 = 175:1).
Wood products: Contain about 50% carbon, 0.10% nitrogen, this is a carbon to nitrogen ratio of 500:1 (50 / 0.10 = 500:1).

----

Wheat bran to wood example:

Composition  |  Carbon: 42g per 100g (42%)  |  Nitrogen: 2.56g per 100g (2.56%).

100g wood + 100g bran = 200g  |  50 + 42 =  92, / 2.00 = [46% carbon]  |  0.1 + 2.56 = 2.66, / 2.00 = [1.33% nitrogen]  |  46 / 1.33 = [35:1].
100g wood + 75g bran = 175g  |  50 + 32 = 82, / 1.75 =  [47% carbon]  |  0.1 + 1.92 = 2.02, / 1.75 = [1.15% nitrogen]  |  47 / 1.15 = [41:1].
100g wood + 50g bran = 150g  |  50 + 21 = 71, / 1.50 = [47% carbon]  |  0.1 + 1.28 = 1.38, / 1.50 = [0.92% nitrogen]  |  47 / 0.92 = [51:1].
100g wood + 25g bran = 125g  |  50 + 11 = 61, / 1.25 = [49% carbon]  |  0.1 + 0.64 = 0.74, / 1.25 = [0.59% nitrogen]  |  49 / 0.59 = [83:1].

50:50 wood to bran produces the best ratio, however I am not sure if you can add that much to wood without a mess.

I am not bias towards methods, and work scientifically, my personal choice is to directly add micro-macro nutrients rather than use bran.
I'm going to try and explain the benefits of adding nutrients directly without changing the carbon source and it's settings.

----

Firstly wood, wood contains plant fiber, and phenol's as it's main carbon source, phenol's can also contain nitrogen.

Lignicolous (wood loving) mycelium target the phenol's with laccase enzymes, this is it's "easy" carbon.
Coprophilous (dung loving) mycelium do not produce laccase, and require another "easy" carbon.

Both mycelium must also receive nitrogen, to make enzymes, new cells and other proteins.

----

Why don't you just add bran to the wood?

Bran contains about 25% starch, starch counts as a fast release or "easy" carbon.
This increases the chance of contamination, even from coprophilous fungi.

Tip: Good decay of starch drops off below pH 6.7, wood is acidic.

----

How does your method work?

I am using paper pellets, which is recycled newspaper, egg carton, so on.
The main carbon source is practically 98% cellulose, no phenol's.

Adding the soluble macro-micro nutrients allows me to enrich the paper, and not add any "easy" carbon.
Imagine my WL-Tek recipe like adding a starch and sugar free grain flour, for the nutrients.

This allows me to use less spawn, and the spawn as the starter resources.

----

Notes:

Optimizing the end pH to suit best cellulose decay may be required.
You can find more on enzymes and pH in my Pocket Guide.

It seems your fruits are being weird on multiple grows and types.
I suspect some sort of aerial invader is about the place.

Just a guess.
